Islamadon 4570 Popular Post Share Posted August 14, 2023 Though the exact origins of Resonance remain unknown, a legend has persisted pertaining to the first Oscillit. Centuries ago, there lived a wiseman who suffered a terrible reprimand for his subversive teachings. As punishment, his lungs were set ablaze with coal dust and was horribly scarred. With will unyielding, this Monk refused to succumb to oblivion. Persisting through unconscionable pain, the Monk found himself unable to breathe as a normal man. Methodically did he plot each and every breath as to meet the necessity for life and, in doing so, he had managed to stay the pain of his affliction. In finding peace, he had mastered rhythm. To the surprise of the monk, his effort had uncovered abilities which eclipsed mere survival. By virtue of the rhythm he had attained, the Monk’s very soul became in tune with the natural world - RESONANCE. From inner peace and the steady rhythm of the breath, he had managed to harness the ambient mana of the world to perform strange and wondrous feats. He dubbed this art “Kani”. For years did the Monk travel the world amassing many disciples - the Oscillits - who sought enlightenment beneath his tutelage. Though time would eventually claim the Monk, his will would be inherited by his students for subsequent generations. From these disciples did two schools give rise - that of the Sun and Moon. The Sun Monks were notoriously straightforward and proud, their breathing patterns energetic and filled with life. In practicing the art of Sun Breathing, these monks found that their physical forms had been significantly enhanced. The Moon Monks, on the other hand, were known to be calm and gentle, their breathing patterns fluid like a flowing stream. From Moon Breathing did these monks discover the ability to affect the supernatural. Alas, these successors found themselves far less successful than their progenitor; thinly was the art of resonance spread. Though sparse, Kani fortunately found cultural resonance with the Farfolk and Beast cultures of Ai-Zho. To the Oyashi, the art had been dubbed “Ryū”, while the Hou-Zi of Cathant dubbed it “Chi”. Whatever the name, Kani has since persisted into the current era. Now in the hands of the Descendants, its prospects prove limitless. THE RESONANCE ANOMALY The nature of a Descendant’s soul is divided into three equal parts: The Core, The Mind and the Body. Each of these fragments contributes to the greater power and potential of the soul. This is to say that empowering any of these fragments empowers the overall individual. Through the Resonance Anomaly, the Oscillit is capable of intuning their soul with a fourth source of power: Nature, or the ambient mana found throughout the World. In effect, the perfected rhythmic breathing of an Oscillit enables their soul to resonate with Ambient Mana, allowing its potential to be utilized. The Oscillit is thus temporarily capable of enhancing the Body portion of their Soul (and subsequently their Soul Blueprint), thereby granting them the ability to interact with the world in physically unique ways. In the past this empowerment, via the flow of natural mana, was interpreted as the flow of Chi. It is noted that a state of Resonance will be inhibited by dense materials. Given the nature of Resonance, the flow of Mana must be unobstructed between the Oscillit and the environment. Metal and other comparably dense materials thwart this exchange, and thus the Oscillit cannot adorn themselves in dense ornaments or arms. The only substances capable of facilitating Resonance are those which are organic, I.E. Leather, Wood, Cloth, Etc. Further, should an Oscillit’s rhythmic breathing be inhibited, Resonance will immediately cease and any applied ability will subside. • Kani occupies [2] Magic Slots. • Kani is compatible with all Races and Creatures that are capable of breathing, who possess lungs and which harbors at the minimum a lesser soul. • Kani is incompatible with Creatures that possess Corrupted or Modified Souls, given their corrupted “Body” portion of the Soul. This is to say Dark CAs are generally incompatible, while FAs and Dark/Voidal Magics may be compatible. • Because Kani is incompatible with "corrupted" beings, Aurum does NOT affect an Oscillit while in resonance. • Resonance is incapable of being achieved in the event one is inhibited by metal or dense materials. It is noted that even a strand of dense jewelry is capable of inhibiting an Oscillit’s ability to achieve resonance. Fortified Bone (Boneforging, Crackadonk, ETC.) and Ironwood tools are considered to be dense. • Resonance will be dropped in the event that an Oscillit’s rhythmic breathing becomes inhibited. This most often occurs from asphyxiation, excessive talking, having the wind knocked out of them, ETC. • For the purposes of Kani, one may carry mechanical items such as Horse Whistles, PvP Equipment, Alchemist Shears, and Mina which are necessary for the interaction of plugins of the server and will not be considered to be metal whilst on the Oscillit’s person (unless stated as otherwise). Achieving resonance, followed by an acknowledgement of any of these tools as being metal during a scenario, may subject the player to harsh punishment at the discretion of the ST. • Oscillits may also adorn themselves or their tools with Lightstones, Quietus Crystals, Adfectio Stones, Titan's Eyes or Arkenlyte for the sake of aesthetic, provided that these materials are not used to enhance one's offensive or defensive capacity, I.E. Lightstone Crystal Spears or Adfectio Armor. PASSIVE AND AGGRESSIVE RANGES Resonance and the temporary enhancement of the Soul Blueprint can be achieved to a varied degree, with the degree of effect it can have on the world dependent upon the concentration of the Oscillit. Passive Resonance is resonance which does not actively task the natural mana an Oscillit attunes. Passive Resonance primarily enables an Oscillit to perform minor feats that are not related to combat, and are thus mostly utilitarian in nature. The Aura produced by Passive Resonance is free-form in nature and may be indicated by a reasonable tell of the Oscillit’s choice. To enter a state of Passive Resonance, an Oscillit must exhaust at the bare minimum [1] Emote of concentrated rhythmic breathing, after which they may conjure abilities within the Passive Range. The Emote Cost to enter Passive Resonance varies depending upon the tier. Aggressive Resonance occurs when an Oscillit actively tasks natural mana into subservience, thus temporarily enhancing their Soul and Body to a potent degree. The Aura produced by Aggressive Resonance too is free-form in nature and is indicated by an energetic, potent enwreathing of the manipulated body part. To enter a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit must exhaust [3] Emotes of concentrated rhythmic breathing, after which they may conjure abilities within the Aggressive Range. In the event an Oscillit is engaged in combat, a state of Aggressive Resonance will be required to use Passive Ranged abilities. All spells in Kani require [1] Emote to cast after achieving their respective states of Resonance. Abilities can be stacked atop one another to create a combination of effects before deliverance, thus increasing the total Emote cost. For example, were an Oscillit seeking to Condense and Harden an object, and then utilize Penetrative Interia, it would require [3] total Emotes to achieve the desired outcome. • Kani is incapable of being dual-cast. There must be at least a [1] Emote period of grace between using an ability of Kani and that of another magic. • Each ability in Kani requires [1] Emote to cast after achieving the required State of Resonance, and multiple abilities may stack with additional charging Emotes. • Passive and Aggressive Resonance possess an identical, free-form tell of the Oscillit’s choice that envelops the affected area, with Aggressive Resonance being notably more energetic and potent. Acceptable tells include: After Images, Sparks, Licks of Flame, ETC. and can practically be anything provided that they do not interfere with vision. • In the event that an Oscillit attempts to utilize a Passive Resonance Ability in the midst of Combat, a state of Aggressive Resonance is necessitated. Further, the Passive Range ability’s tell will be replaced by standard Aggressive Resonance potency. • An Oscillit is capable of entering a state of Aggressive Resonance from a state of Passive Resonance. This requires an addition [2] Emotes of connection, for a total of [3]. THE PATHS OF SUN AND MOONThe paths of Sun and Moon stem from the Core Abilities of Kani and are the manifestations of Aggressive Resonance. Given the emotional nature of the soul, the advanced abilities of the Oscillit fork depend upon the personal mentality and rhythm of the Oscillit. The Path of the Sun provides abilities far more physical and direct. The Path of the Moon enables an Oscillit to affect the metaphysical. In undertaking either path, the Oscillit will find that their personality will generally begin to align with the respective archetype of their Path, to the discretion of the practitioner. Sun Monks may generally be energetic and straightforward while Moon Monks may be more calculating and “zen”. This is due to the breathing techniques utilized, given that either technique requires a consistent state of mind and rhythm. A Kani practitioner who subscribes to the Sun Path is thus incapable of utilizing abilities from the Moon Path, and vice versa. Through deep meditation, an Oscillit may be able to shift their mentality to the parallel path once per OOC month. The ritual for doing such is generally free-form, but necessitates that an Oscillit perform it while basking beneath the light of the Sun or Moon. • An Oscillit is responsible for keeping the ST informed as to which path they have chosen by noting it upon their MA. In the event that an Oscillit wishes to switch paths, they must make an appropriate SREQ as to update their MA. [T1] ORBIT [PASSIVE RESONANCE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to redirect the attraction of objects at rest unto themselves. In effect, an Oscillit incites their Soul Blueprint’s to attract ambient mana, whereby non-metal objects will find it more appealing to orbit about the Oscillit than to stick to the ground. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Passive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to invoke non-metal objects at rest into harmlessly orbiting about them to a maximum 3x3 meter area of effect. While in orbit, objects will maneuver about the path of least resistance and will shift out of the way of incoming projectiles, obstructions and individuals. This enables an Oscillit to carry items in a hand-free capacity. Alternatively, an Oscillit may be capable of fabricating a bubble of “Minor Avoidance” whereby they can shield themselves from ambient rainfall, dust, sand, blood sprays and other miscellaneous nuisances. In the event that the Oscillit or another wish to claim an object from the orbit, they may do so with ease. It is noted that though any object may theoretically be affected by Orbit’s pull, the weight of affected objects will encumber the Oscillit beyond a weight of twenty-five pounds. Further, should resonance be disrupted, the objects in orbit would fall back to the ground harmlessly. REDLINES: • Orbit will, at Maximum, only affect an area of 3x3 Meters (Blocks). • Orbit is incapable of being used for combative purposes. • Orbit’s ability to create a bubble of “Minor Avoidance” holds no bearing on combat, and will not block against strikes, thrown potions, thrown powders, evoked sand, ETC. Minor Avoidance is purely intended for ambient nuisances, such as rain or dust storms. This said, the bubble of "Minor Avoidance" is capable of shielding the Oscillit against MUNDANE smokescreens rendered by alchemical or magical means amidst combat. • Orbit has a weight capacity of twenty-five pounds lest the Oscillit become too encumbered to adequately maintain their rhythmic breath. [T1] CONDENSING [PASSIVE RESONANCE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to coagulate and condense particulate matter. In effect, an Oscillit incites their Soul Blueprint to “pull” at the ambient mana within objects whereby they can combine separate pieces of matter to form a singular object. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Passive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to condense particles or substances they interact with to a maximum of a 1x1 meter area of effect. When condensed, the particles will gain a durability comparable to that of plywood - durable but prone to breakage. Particles that an Oscillit is capable of condensing include: Smoke, Dust, Sand, Rain, Mist, Blood Droplets, Ash, Petals, Snowfall, Leaves and Paper. Should an Oscillit remove their touch from the affected condensed tool, the particles will return to a chaotic, unbinded state following [1] Emotes of grace. This is to say that, in the event an Oscillit had fabricated sand shurikens, the tools would remain condensed for a period of [1] Emote after being thrown. REDLINES: • Condensing will, at Maximum, only affect an area of 1x1 Meters (Blocks). This is intended for structures such as barriers, stairs, etcetera; thus, an Oscillit would still be capable of condensing a staff or other reasonably contained device. • Condensing will endow an affected object or substance with a durability comparable to plywood. This is to say that though it will retain its form when held, it remains prone to breakage. Without utilizing the “Hardening” ability, the formed item will break after a single combative strike. • Liquids may be condensed to a maximum volume of one gallon, whereas Solids may be condensed to a maximum weight of ten pounds. [T2] HARDENING [PASSIVE RESONANCE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to harden both liquids and malleable solids. In effect, an Oscillit incites their Soul Blueprint to resonate at a lower frequency - similar to that of a solid - whereby they force the ambient mana within objects to conform to their will. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Passive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to stiffen an object or substance they interact with to a maximum of a 3x3 meter area of effect. When hardened, the affected target will gain a durability comparable to that of dense rubber. This enables an Oscillit to walk upon water, reinforce previously condensed tools, and even make “armor” from their clothing. Should an Oscillit remove their touch from the affected surface - be it water or a tool - the surface will return to its original state following [2] Emotes of continued hardness. This is to say that, in the event an Oscillit is pursued upon water, the hardened surface will not immediately “vanish” because the Oscillit steps from it. Instead, the water will remain stiff for [2] Emotes before returning to its liquid state. REDLINES: • Hardening will, at maximum, only affect an area of 3x3 Meters (Blocks). • Hardening will endow an effect object or substance with stiffness comparable to Hardened Rubber. This is to say that though it is generally resistant to simple cuts, hardened surfaces could be penetrated via thrusts, bludgeons or bolts. • Hardening clothing for the sake of armor will be constituted as an aggressive, combative action and will thus require Aggressive Resonance. [T2] FRICTION [PASSIVE RESONANCE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to alter the inherent friction of their body. In effect, an Oscillit incites their Soul Blueprint to maximize or minimize their “imperfections” in relation to objects that they are interacting with, resulting in a change of friction. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Passive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to increase or reduce the amount of friction they impose upon other objects or surfaces. The affected area is exclusively limited to the Oscillit themselves, their immediate clothing and their resonant tools. In the event that Friction is increased, an Oscillit will discover that their newfound friction is capable of supporting their body weight. This enables an Oscillit to stay planted on the ground and/or scale surfaces without risk of falling, or even increase resistance in a weapons bind. In the event that Friction is decreased, an Oscillit will discover that their newfound friction facilitates slick movement and an inability to be grappled. This enables an Oscillit to slide upon surfaces and/or to resist attempts of being seized without proper restraints. REDLINES: • Altered Friction will, at maximum, only affect the Oscillit, their clothing and their resonant tools. • Increasing Friction will enable an Oscillit to support their weight upon treacherous surfaces. Though they may theoretically climb walls, mechanical standard still applies unless waived by the ET during an event. • Decreasing Friction will enable an Oscillit to slide and slip around. This does not increase movement speed, but may aid in fending off seizures lacking proper restraints. Proper restraints constitute rope, bindings, chains, handcuffs, etc. [T3] DELAYED INERTIA [AGGRESSIVE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to delay the delivery of force for a short period of time. In effect, the Oscillit incites their Soul Blueprint to “echo” when interacting with an object, whereby the target will experience the echo rather than the initial interaction. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to delay the force of a strike they have delivered. The affected area is exclusively limited to the target the Oscillit is interacting with. This effect may be temporarily imbued upon resonant tools. When a target is struck with Delayed Inertia, no initial force from the blow would be delivered and instead a series of calm “flickers” would linger at the point of contact. After [1] Emote, the flickers will increase in their intensity before delivering the force that would have been delayed. The Oscillit may determine whether the force will be delivered at the beginning or end of their next turn. Consecutive strikes will reset the [1] Emote timer and will thus stack the number of blows that will be delivered; this does NOT combine the total force. This is to say that a target can be struck multiple times in multiple areas, and that once the timer ends, all of those blows will be delivered at once. REDLINES: • Delayed Inertia will, at maximum, only affect the target the Oscillit strikes. • Delayed Inertia necessitates that the target be directly struck by the Oscillit. • Delayed Inertia cannot be used to stack the force of a thrown projectile, nor will stacked blows combine to create a stronger force. • Delayed Inertia will deliver the stalled force at the beginning or end of the Oscillit’s next turn, to the discretion of the Oscillit. This is to say that, in the event an Oscillit wishes to reset the timer with consecutive strikes, the delivered force would thus take hold at the END of their next turn so that they may attempt to deliver an additional attack. • Resonant tools are defined as objects which can facilitate resonance. This includes objects condensed/hardened through Kani, and compatible organic substances. [T3] PENETRATIVE INERTIA [AGGRESSIVE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to project their attacks beyond barriers. In effect, the Oscillit incites their Soul Blueprint to gracefully bypass and flow through an object, whereby the target will experience the force of a strike as if it were delivered on the opposite side. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to project physical force through obstructive mediums. The affected area is exclusively limited to the target the Oscillit is interacting with and the medium being bypassed. This ability may temporarily be channeled through resonant tools. When a target is struck with Penetrative Inertia, waves reflecting the user’s aura would manifest upon the struck medium for [1] Emote and the force of the strike would be ushered towards the target directly beyond it. This enables an Oscillit to perform penetrating effects upon armor, projecting the force of their attack as if nothing would obstruct it. The degree of penetration is limited to a total of one meter and may be thwarted by gaps such as air. It is thus reasonably impossible to strike through an object to hit an individual behind them if they were separated by distance. This said, an Oscillit may be capable of penetrating smaller objects; for example, punching stone through an apple. REDLINES: • Penetrative Inertia cannot be used to “one-shot” targets or to deliver internal trauma to a target. At most, the force delivered by Penetrative Inertia comparable to what the instrument would deliver naturally. • The force delivered by Penetrative Inertia will always be “blunt”. This is to say Penetrative Inertia will be incapable of stabbing or cutting a target should the Oscillit use a sharpened piece of bone or wood. • Penetrative Inertia has a total range of one meter, and thus it is impossible to strike a target beyond this range. Further, gaps between the affected medium and the target, such as air, will negate the penetrative force. • Penetrative Inertia is capable of penetrating what one could reasonably constitute as armor. • Resonant tools are defined as objects which can facilitate resonance. This includes objects condensed/hardened through Kani, and compatible organic substances. [T4] IRON BODY [AGGRESSIVE] An Oscillit may incite Resonance to reinforce the durability of their skin akin to that of iron. In effect, the Oscillit incites their Soul Blueprint to condense and harden their own skin to a potent degree, whereby they can protect themselves from simplistic attacks. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to reinforce a portion of their body to a durability comparable to Iron. The affected area is exclusively limited to the Oscillit themself. This ability is incapable of being imbued upon resonant tools. When a portion of an Oscillit’s body is imbued with Iron Body, it will gain the durability of iron for a period of [3] Emotes as it is enwreathed with their aura. Though an Oscillit will not be granted the weight advantage of Iron for attacks, their base skin will become resistant to slashing and piercing. This enables an Oscillit to protect a portion of their body for defense while grappling with an opponent’s weapon or delivering an attack. This said, blunt weapons are capable of bypassing an Oscillits’s reinforced body and may dent their skin and/or break their bones as it would armor. Areas an Oscillit can affect are: One Arm, One Leg, The Torso and/or the Head. Though an Oscillit may be capable of reinforcing multiple portions of their body at once, the duration of the ability will ensure that at least three portions of a target’s body are open to attack at any time. REDLINES: • Iron Body will not grant invincibility to an Oscillit. Affected areas will remain vulnerable to Blunt Damage and Bolts. Further, the eyes and mouth of an Oscillit will NOT harden in the event that their head does. • Iron Body, though capable of successfully blocking attacks, will not completely null the concussive force of attacks. Instead, the force would be significantly muted to a non-debilitating degree, but will ensure that an Oscillit is capable of being deflected, pushed away or recoiled. • Iron Body does not enhance the weight of any limb for offensive purposes, nor does it weigh down the Oscillit while active. • Iron Body may only affect: One Arm, One Leg, The Torso, and/or the Head for a total of [6] portions. An Oscillit may reinforce multiple areas at once, but given the [3] Emote timer, only three portions of the body will be affected at any given time. This is to say that there will always remain three unprotected areas upon the Oscillit. • Iron Body takes priority over the ability “Hardening”. This is to say that should an arm be reinforced with Iron Body but be covered with cloth that had been hardened, the properties of that limb will defer to “Iron Body” for damage calculation as opposed to stacking numerous defenses. • Iron Body will NOT protect an Oscillit from the effects of Magic of any kind, nor the concussive force of spells. This said, Iron Body WILL negate the concussive force of "Kinetic Strike" and instead treat the attack as a standard punch upon the body. • Iron Body cannot be imbued unto resonant tools, or tools of any kind. [T5] KINETIC STRIKE [AGGRESSIVE] An Oscillit may incite Resonance to bolster the potency of their unarmed attacks. In effect, the Oscillit incites their Soul Blueprint to manifest additional force about their chosen appendage, whereby they can strike as if they were swinging a warhammer. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit may be capable of enhancing the power of their strikes to possess the force of a warhammer. The affected area is exclusively limited to the Oscillit’s hand or foot. This ability is incapable of being imbued upon resonant tools. When an Oscillit’s fist or foot is imbued with Kinetic Strike, it will begin to brightly shine with the user’s aura for [1] Emote and the Oscillit will be able to deliver a blow with force comparable to that of a swung warhammer. When delivered, the stored resonance within the Oscillit's appendage will burst outwards with a resonant "boom", amplifying their strike. This enables an Oscillit to deliver devastating blows while completely unarmed, thus making their body their chosen weapon. An Oscillit’s fist or foot will remain imbued for a total of one emote and will dispel once a target is struck or the emote elapses. The strength of Kinetic Strike scales directly to the race of the Oscillit; this is to say an Orc who uses Kinetic Strike will deliver a blow comparable to an orc-swung warhammer. REDLINES: • Kinetic Strike CANNOT be combined with Penetrative Inertia. The Oscillit cannot make force bypass a medium with grace while also amplifying its potential. • Kinetic Strike will only remain imbued onto an Oscillits hand or foot for [1] Emote. • Kinetic Strike is effectively a re-skinned warhammer swing. This is to say that one should not get into the semantics of PSI, force amplification, ETC. and should be treated as if a foot or fist had simply been replaced with a warhammer. • Kinetic Strike cannot be imbued unto resonant tools, or tools of any kind. • Kinetic Strike necessitates proper form to enact. This is to say that an Oscillit cannot "tap" their opponent to enact this ability, but instead should deliver a proper punch or kick. • Kinetic Strike's "boom" is an aesthetic tell. This is to say that while present, it does not inflict recoil upon the Oscillit the way Volatite's "thunderclap" might. [T3] THIRD EYE [AGGRESSIVE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to endow their bodies with ability to view and interact with mana as if it were physical. In effect, the Oscillit modifies their Soul Blueprint to mimic the properties of nature energy, whereby their body can physically mold and view the flows and ebbs of mana. Spoiler MECHANICS After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to view the flows and ebbs of mana and manipulate it as if it were physical. The effect is limited to the Oscillit and the mana they are directly interacting with. This ability may be channeled through resonant tools. When an Oscillit channels Third Eye, their body will begin to wash with waves reflecting the user’s aura for [5] Emotes, with a circle of these waves manifesting upon the Oscillit’s forehead. While active, the Oscillit is capable of viewing the flows and ebbs of mana, the energy depicted as light. This enables an Oscillit to view the mana about enchanted items, spells that are being charged, and magical structures. The Oscillit also gains the capability of molding mana, evoked or inert, as if it were physical - endowing it with a visible glow. Though primarily reserved for aesthetic flare, shaped mana may fall under the purview of “Condensing” and “Hardening” to create make-shift tools while Third-Eye is active. REDLINES:• Third Eye is capable of identifying the flows and ebbs of mana within spells and enchantments. Third eye is also capable of identifying the flow and ebbs of mana about magical structures such as Menhirs, Soul Trees, Obelisks, ETC. • Third Eye is incapable of determining exactly what kind of magic is being cast or has been enchanted upon an object. • Third Eye can only determine if another individual is a user of magic when they are in the process of casting. • Third Eye is incapable of seeing through the active disguises of magics or CAs [barring Voidal Illusion], nor is Third Eye tipped off to their existence. • Third Eye, though capable of seeing an invisible Ghost, first requires the Oscillit to be suspicious of a Ghost’s presence before investigating. Do not metagame. • Thanhium, Auric Oil, Null Arcana and other abjurations are especially devastating while channeling Third Eye, given an Oscillit’s mana-like property. In the event that an Oscillit is struck with any of the aforementioned whilst channeling Third Eye, resonance will break and extreme physical trauma [gore, pain, etc.] will afflict the affected area. This said, Third Eye IS compatible with “Abjuring Strike”. [T3] FEATHER FORM [AGGRESSIVE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to lighten their body and increase its agility. In Effect, the Oscillit modifies their Soul Blueprint to temporarily displace the body’s weight whereby a sensation of near weightlessness is invoked. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to dramatically lighten the weight of their body. The affected area is exclusively limited to the Oscillit themself and any resonant tool they are directly interacting with. This ability cannot be traditionally imbued onto resonant tools for offensive purposes, given their lack of weight would render practically no force. When an Oscillit imbues themself with Feather Form, their weight will practically reduce to nothing as their body pulsates with waves reflecting the user’s aura for a [2] Emote duration. This enables an Oscillit to fall from greater heights safely, and to perform unique acrobatics that would seem otherwise impossible. It is noted that while utilizing Feather Form, an Oscillit does not possess the heightened reflexes nor enhanced speed to avoid attacks they cannot traditionally. Feather Form instead permits an Oscillit to perform physics-defying acrobatics within reason. This is to say that while they cannot dodge bolts, they could in theory “backflip” to avoid an attack that could be dodged normally. REDLINES: • Feather form does not enhance one’s reflexes or speed, but instead grants an Oscillit the ability to perform physics-defying acrobatics within reason. An attack that would hit normally would still hit. • Feather Form enables an Oscillit to safely drop from heights an additional 6 blocks. The affected ranges in relation to former RP Rules would be as follows: • 6 → 12 Blocks maximum for an unimpeded fall. • 9 → 15 Blocks maximum for a fall which results in a stumble. • 12 → 18 Blocks maximum for a fall which results in a broken leg. • 15 → 21 Blocks maximum for a fall which results in incapacitation. • 18 → 24 Blocks maximum for a fall which results in death. • Feather Form, while technically capable of being used for physical offense, would practically render no physical force. • Feather Form, while endowing properties to near weightlessness, does not make an Oscillit float nor are they able to be launched as a projectile. [T4] ABJURING STRIKE [AGGRESSIVE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to abjure evoked mana when struck. In effect, the Oscillit modifies their soul blueprint to destabilize and interfere with targets that possess mana, thereby causing the target to become unable to draw upon, channel or maintain mana. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to abjure and/or disrupt the flow of mana when striking a target. The effect extends to the whole of the target if struck. This ability is capable of being imbued upon Resonant Tools. When an Oscillit channels Abjuring Strike, their chosen instrument will begin to swirl with the user's aura for [1] Emote. When a primarily mana-composed target is struck, the mana within it would be disrupted and the properties of said target are made null. This enables an Oscillit to cleave through mana-based spells [up to T4], banish ghosts and evil abjure voidal entities. In addition, should a target be struck, the Abjuring Strike will emit a pulse of resonance that, while not delivering physical damage, may inhibit the target in channeling their mana for a period of [4] Emotes as the Oscillit's projected resonance interferes with their casting. It is noted that this resonant pulse may only be emitted once every [7] emotes by the Oscillit. It is noted that the target will not be "disconnected"; instead, their current spell will drop followed by a period of interference. Upon the 5th emote following, they will be free to charge a new spell without the need to re-establish connection to their magic source. Though Abjuring Strike can aid in destroying magical constructs, the Oscillit must strike areas possessing mana and not their external shell. This is to say that an Oscillit cannot automatically defeat an Atronach by touching it; their armor may be bypassed. This said, the Resonant pulse may bypass armor if struck given that it is general interference. Abjuring Strike is capable of dispelling spells evoked by enchantments, but not enchantments themselves. In the event that a spell is abjured, its ambient mana will linger for a time and slowly return to the environment. REDLINES: • Abjuring Strike nullifies the effects of T4 spells upon contact and will act as an Abjuration towards Voidal Horrors, Voidstalkers, ETC. • Abjuring Strike is incapable of abjuring enchantments themselves, but may abjure their evoked spells. • Abjuring Strike cannot be used as a "shield" and instead must be swung at a target. This is to say that an Oscillit cannot cover themselves in an abjuring shield. • Abjuring's Strike Resonant Pulse retains a [7] Emote cooldown after being activated. This will ensure that targeted mages will get at least [3] emotes to channel a new spell before this can be cast again. • Abjuring Strike is a targeted attack and is NOT an AOE. Further, Abjuring Strike cannot cleave through both a spell AND an additional target. • Abjuring Strike is capable of banishing ghosts with [3] direct hits, and may disable magical constructs with [5] direct hits to their mana sources. Mana-Based constructs include Golems, Atronachs, Eidolas, ETC. The Resonant Pulse does NOT stun Magical Entities/Constructs. • Abjuring Strike does not amplify physical damage and instead only disrupts the flow of mana within a spell or target. [T5] HARMONIC MENDING [AGGRESSIVE] An Oscillit may incite resonance to accelerate the healing process within the body, or to slow their rate of blood-flow as to mitigate blood loss and the spread of poison. In effect, the Oscillit modifies their Soul Blueprint to repair and safeguard at a greater rate. Spoiler MECHANICS: After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit may be able to accelerate the healing potential of an unmodified body for a set duration, the potency of which is exemplified in Lesser and Greater forms. These effects extend to either the Oscillit themself, or a living target with maintained physical contact. When an Oscillit channels Mending, their wounds will begin to radiate with the user's aura for the duration of its cast. During Combat, Lesser Harmonic Mending may aid the Oscillit in numbing painful wounds, and to stem both blood-loss and the spread of poison for a [5] emote duration. This ability may be channeled onto a living target, though requires constant direct contact and continued channeling. Lesser Harmonic Mending does NOT work on critical wounds such as vital organ damage, impalement, or dismemberment. Wounds treated on a target other than an Oscillit shall open if they engage in combat or take to a sprint. Outside of Combat, Major Harmonic Mending may aid the Oscillit in mending Moderate Wounds and Broken Bones. Over the course of [5] Emotes with intense focus and meditation, an Oscillit may totally mend Broken Bones, Non-Critical Punctures, Lacerations, Scrapes and Bruises. It is noted that Major Harmonic Mending cannot be used to restore crushed or severed appendages, third degree burns, critical ailments, or unstabilized internal injuries. An Oscillit may use this ability twice per OOC day before rendering them unable to channel Resonance; following the first use, the Oscillit will be endowered with [T3] Resonance Fatigue and the subject will be afflicted with voidal weakness for [4] OOC hours. REDLINES: • Harmonic Mending may only work on beings with an unmodified Soul Blueprint. See Kani compatibility for more information. This cannot be used to metagame disguised CAs.• Lesser Harmonic Mending cannot be used to stem the blood-loss or pain within critical organs such as the Heart, Lungs, Brain, ETC. This said, Lesser Stabilize can numb the pain and stabilize blood loss from appendage loss.• Lesser Harmonic Mending, if being used upon another, necessitates constant contact with the Oscillit given that Resonance must be channeled into them. This also means that an Oscillit cannot use their other abilities while stabilizing another.• Lesser Harmonic Mending, though stemming the flow of Poison, does not cure or remove the Poison. This is to say that an Oscillit need to cure themselves of their ailment for a longterm solution.• Greater Harmonic Mending cannot aid in critical ailments such as Paralysis, Third Degree Burns or Curse Removal; nor is it capable of restoring severed or crushed appendages. • Greater Harmonic Mending, in order to mend bones, first requires that the broken appendage be set. This is to say Greater Mending will not magically fix a rib poking into a lung, or a horribly mangled hand. • Greater Harmonic Mending, after the first use, endows the Oscillit with a [T3] Resonance Fatigue as found in the Tier Progression. This means that, while still being able to cast a [T5] or [T4] ability, the Oscillit will need to reconnect after four spell uses. Additionally, those treated with Greater Harmonic Mending will be afflicted with general physical fatigue comparable to voidal weakness for [4] OOC Hours.• Greater Harmonic Mending may only be used outside of combat encounters. This is to say that one need escape a CRP scenario, per the focus required. • Greater Harmonic Mending may be disrupted by the sources of interference. Loud Noises, Physical Altercation, and other means of disruption may break concentration. All that is required to learn Kani is a Teacher who possesses a valid TA and a student who meets the criteria for compatibility with the Resonance Anomaly. Once a Student begins to learn Rythmic Breath, they will immediately reach T1 and may begin to learn how to utilize Resonance with their teacher’s guidance. In order to acquire a TA, an Oscillit must have studied both the Sun and the Moon path, and mastered every ability. Given the nature of Kani, one cannot be forcibly disconnected from the Magic given that it is a matter of mastering rhythmic breath. True disconnection can only be achieved by permanently altering the Soul Blueprint (i.e. becoming a Dark CA) or by having one’s lungs permanently and irreparably damaged, therefore incapable of maintaining rhythmic breath. TIER ONE [WEEKS 0-1] The Oscillit begins to learn proper breathing technique and how to Incite Resonance. • At T1 an Oscillit may ONLY connect to Passive Resonance and is incapable of utilizing any abilities. TIER TWO [WEEK 2] The Oscillit learns to enter a state of Passive Resonance and may utilize abilities, albeit with active effort and full concentration. • At T2 an Oscillit may ONLY enter Passive Resonance after [3] Emotes. TIER THREE [WEEK 4] The Oscillit learns to enter a State of Aggressive Resonance, albeit with difficulty, and may choose the Path of the Sun or the Moon. • At T3 an Oscillit may enter Passive Resonance after [2] Emotes and Aggressive Resonance after [3] Emotes. • While in a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit will only be capable of casting [4] spells before requiring a reconnection. TIER FOUR [WEEK 8] The Oscillit is able to manipulate the Passive Range near instinctively and may now utilize Aggressive Resonance in a more effective capacity. • At T4 an Oscillit may enter Passive Resonance after [1] Emote and Aggressive Resonance after [3] Emotes. • While in a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit will only be capable of casting [6] spells before requiring a reconnection. TIER 5 [WEEK 12] The Oscillit has mastered both Passive and Aggressive Resonance, and may manipulate either ranges with little difficulty. • At T5 an Oscillit may enter Passive Resonance after [1] Emote and Aggressive Resonance after [3] Emotes. • While in a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit will be capable of casting unlimited spells lest their rhythmic breath becomes inhibited. This is to say that a reconnection is NOT required. PURPOSE Kani and Chi have been THE martial arts magics on LOTC for years now. After researching Chi, it became clear to me that both Chi and Kani utilized the same power source - ambient mana. As opposed to splitting a Martial Arts niche into multiple magic sects in future renditions, this rewrite intends to combine Chi and Kani into a cohesive and balanced magic. Further, this piece intends to clean up the lore inconsistencies of current Kani to better fit the LOTC universe. lemonke 1897 Share Posted August 14, 2023 It's p cool, i like what you did here. Only thing I may have to say about it's the difference between the two paths; sun one does look quite underwhelming in comparision to the moon one. Spells-wise I mean. In a sense that moon path is more dynamic and stronger, while the sun one seems to have too many average type of spell. Both are cool though, i just think the sun one should a little bit more interesting. I can go into details, if you wish!

Given the players get to choose their style, I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other - it just depends on situation.

What I meant is that the moon is more 'dynamic' and has a better theme with a lot of cool and unique abilities, wherein the sun one is basically "punch stronger" or "tougher limb" but it is the aesthetic and flavour of the abilities that does matter. In my opinion, strength doesn't always come from hitting harder around magic but . I see your point though- for sure the sun path is for the classic and simple fighter archetype. Take my opinion with a grant of salt, by the way, I'm still new around Kani- so I may not understand properly each problem. Nevertheless, you did write some epic lore here. It's easier to understand and read- I have been struggling to comprehend the accepted one! So, it's cool to see some improvements.

I think it should serve as ‘the more metal, the weaker your connection’. Like wear ten rings, can’t use kani, but wear five and you’re a little inhibited.

Though I initially seethed at the current state of Metal and Kani, I came to like it because it forced an archetype of unarmored and no-weapon. The mechanic redline I included, I feel, solves the big issue of being unable to do basic things such as herb runs w/o getting barred from using your kung fu because you have alch shears. It also just safeguards against minmaxing and having someone use a sharpened palm blade or something while they fight.
