A Discussion On The High Elven War Claim

Random assignment? Everyone who shows up rolls 100 and pick the lowest numbers? I'm all for your idea, but it has to find a way to be balanced and not arbitrary. If it is arbitrary either it will be too much or too little, and that isn't fair or fun for either side.

Another problem with Chris's idea is you have to pick who to be killed which might be a bit mean. Like you, you, and you DMG 20 xD. I would prefer a certain number of weapons that are enchanted be given to the High Elf mages to avoid that and keep the advantage for them.

Makes sense, I guess. I was just throwing it out there. The enchanted weapons does seem like the best idea at this moment.

Good point. Also, I'd hate to be the poor guy who gets the lowest number. That wouldn't be fun at all.

It all comes down to compromise, I know I'm willing to work it out. It is unfortunate no magic plugin exists, but we have to work with it.

Both sides will receive enchanted swords?

if so maybe the worse fighters should get them because if we have the veteran pvp'ers with enchanted swords i think a lot of people would be out of the fight too quickly

I believe that the magic-users will receive the swords, to even out everything else. PvP has no real direct correlation with RP prowess.

I mean why not just mages instead of making it complicated? Not like you and you are the best PvPers get the enchanted weapons, but like the mages get them so they can accuarelty show their ability and still kick ass. I've played on many PvP servers, and I won't lie, enchanted weapons make a bigger difference then most people think against normal weapons.

So... is this the solution? Enchanted weapons for the mages? It seems like the most fair and the easiest to do.

Edit: In response to Caln below me \/, I say that this is brilliant! We finally have a solution. I cannot really represent the high elves in this discussion, as one of my characters is lost at sea and the other is a 9 year old girl. :p

The only reason you are having this fight is because the coders made promises they can not keep. We will probably, due to how things always work out, never get a magic plugin. If my slim chance we do... it will probably never be balanced. The staff almost never come through with their promises in regards to coding. Look at the shops plugin, there are dozens that work, yet we do not have one. Racial buffs and magic have been promised since the beginning of Aegis, yet, still nothing. My point is you can not wait.

This is not the time nor thread to bring up the Tech team. I know for a /fact/ that it is being worked on. Please, keep that for another thread that is on the topic of the tech team and plugins. Thank you.

Then, Mr. Porkchop if we are to take this course of action (I'd have to check if people are ok with it realistically) we must decide how said things work, how they are distributed and what allows what to occur.

I have not read through all 14 pages. That's how I'm going to preface this post.

I have 2 potential solutions:

This is simple and obvious - a PvP battle occurs. Perhaps right outside the walls, or atop them, and perhaps if the attacking side pushes the defenders back they could breach the gates. This is simple and has been discussed.

The second suggestion is rather... different. Perhaps a two-stage battle, where the first part of the battle is an RP fight with mages and the second part being a PvP attack. Allow me to explain. Since bignxsysxy appears to want to attack Haelun'or by sea (according to OP), perhaps the naval to coast battle could be done in an RP fight format. Meaning that Mages could man the Haelun'or walls/coastline, magicking at the naval force. Meanwhile the naval force could be launching bows, crossbows and potentially siege weapons. Multiple GMs would be required to oversee this, determining the outcomes of players' deaths. If the attacking force fails to defeat the mage force, then they retreat and don't return. If they succeed, they get to breach the city walls and normal PvP will ensue.

Your thoughts?

Not a bad thought Aislin, the only problem:

With the amount of mages and other fights on both sides, RP is going to be way too difficult to keep track of. Not only will too many emotes be missed, but the RP would move too slowly for people to actually enjoy. Trying to get 20-some High Elf mages, and the High Elf fighters along with all the opposing naval force to all RP and emote at the same time will be a great feat, that I cannot imagine happening.

Someone just had a great idea in another chat of mine: Enchanted bows based on power. So not weaponry but bows. It preserves the fact mages are ranged while giving them a way to do something similar to magic.

I actually like that idea.

Come on, I respect you and the way you've handled the orcs Orcs but it's becoming harder for me to like you when you're throwing ungrounded accusations around. We were honestly trying to have a civil discussion and I fail to see the barrage of OOC abuse towards the Orcs that you are gathering from this thread. I know there's some hostility and there probably always will be. This will no doubt cast a shadow on any RP those two might do together. However, I thought it was staying out of this thread pretty well, if not entirely.

Furthermore, if all that stood between now and you guys having a magic plugin was the thousands of lines of code we'd have it for you within the month. I've been coding stuff like you wouldn't believe, and I'm not the only one. That you haven't seen any plugins released or coding promises fulfilled lately isn't because we are lazy.
