As a child, Gerald started his life as the son of Haenseni farmers. He had dreamed of going off to war, fighting great battles, and having his name hailed across all the land. At 18, he had his chance to go off to war when the Arberrang rebels rose up against the Kingdom of Haense, falsely holding the Baruch keep in rebellion after their treachery. He went to war, meeting one of the leaders of the assualt, Marius Karl Baruch. Gerald fought beside Marius during the siege of Greyguard, earning his first kill. Though war was not as glorious as he had previously thought. With the assaulting forces emerging victorious, Gerald sought out Marius Baruch. He was intrigued by the Baruch piety, taking an interest himself. After reading a copy of one of the Cannonist lecture, Gerald decided that his future now laid within the clergy. He set out to the Cannonist church to begin his future as a clergyman.
