JJosey 1243 Popular Post Share Posted August 20, 2023 ECHOES OF LEGACY: THE CROWN OF AMATHINE [Sigil by JJosey][All other art is by Morgan Rogers] The Crown of Amathine was founded upon the coronation of High Princess Idril Sylvaeri. The developing country is considered the successor state to the Principality of Elvenesse, which in turn was the successor state to the state of Aegrothond. The state’s national colors are red, white gold and blue. The country has strong positive international ties to the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, the Silver State of Haelun’or, the Kingdom of Balian and the Iron Horde. Culture A diverse tapestry of ethnic groups weaves the fabric of a vibrant culture. Among them, two dominant factions stand tall—the Irrinites and the Almenoreans. While the Almenoreans have a significant following of Thalassaism, the worship of the Sea Goddess Thalassa, the realm witnesses the birth of something remarkable—the rebirth of Malin's ancient ways, branching off from the Almenodrim, the dominating culture. In this grand endeavor, the realm seeks to revitalize and embrace the time-honored traditions of Malin, drawing inspiration from the wisdom of the ancient monarch. Together, they forge a new path, celebrating their unique traditions and arts while fostering unity and harmony among all elves. The Wood Elves, in particular, find solace in Aspectism, a prevailing religion that connects them with the primal forces of nature and aspects. Alongside it, the Wild Faith forms a sizable religious minority, enriching the realm's spiritual diversity with their distinct devotion. From the skilled craft of smithing to the profound wisdom of druidism, the art of sailing, the healing practices of medicine and herbs, the preservation of ancient customs, and the skillful pursuit of hunting, the realm embraces a myriad of talents. Aspiring seekers of knowledge and wisdom embark on a profound journey, guided by wise souls who embody the essence of tradition. Through evaluations and challenges, they showcase their growing proficiency, evolving into knowledgeable scholars and adept aspectists, carrying the legacy of ancient wisdom within their hearts. Amidst the cultural expanse of Amathine, a harmonious coexistence of tradition and progress comes to life. The realm celebrates its past while embracing diverse beliefs, resulting in a flourishing society where the echoes of time dance with the infinite possibilities of the future. With anticipation, the realm looks forward to the unity and wonder that lies ahead. Within Amathine's enchanted embrace, the rebirth of ancient ways merges seamlessly with the prevailing culture of the Almenoreans and the sacred reverence of the Irrinites. Together, they forge an Elvendom like no other, where the roots of the past entwine with the branches of the future. History The Crown of Amathine traces its history through a series of spiritual successor states all the way back to the ancient Holy Princedom of Malinor, as well as the modern Crown of Elvenesse. As such, modern day Amathine models itself as a united realm for all descendants of Malin. Long before Malinor was founded in Aegis, Malin and his children lived in the ancient lands. Of these children, Sylvaen was the eldest. When Malin’s children fractured and trod their separate paths, some came to reside in the forests and woodlands, later becoming the Wood Elven people. Sylvaen founded the realm of Almenor in the mountainous regions of Malin’s kingdom, and the Elves who came to reside there were called the Almenodrim. In later years, they would come to be known as the Sea Elves. This is because the Almenodrim were a sea-faring people, taking to the oceans when they departed the Elven homeland in the Great Exile. The Great Exile came about after the War against Iblees and Malin’s disappearance and was prompted by an ignoble act by Sylvaen which is only hinted at in collected writings. This history is recorded in a collection of epic poetry known as the Lay of Aegrothond. Only parts of it survive, the rest being lost to history. Those tales that remain are as follows: I. The Tale of Dagnir which describes the founding of Almenor by Sylvaen Everflame and the forging of the great and terrible sword Dagnir. II. The Tale of Serinwë which details the life of the matriarch of the Almenodrim, from the day she and Sylvaen are wed to the day she dies at the hands of Iblees. III. Edrahil and the Dragon in which Edrahil, fourthborn son of Sylvaen and Serinwë, slays the wyrm known as Ankar. IV. The Tale of Vitras in which Vitras laments the lack of elder trees and builds a great ship to travel back to the ancient lands, but finds it barren and desolate of Elven life. He brings back a seed of a tree which populates the land with a great forest. V. Erendriel the Bard where the Almenorean tradition of composing ballads and epic poetry begins. The Principality of Aegrothond The Dwarves of Ord gifted Illynora and Belestram Sylvaeri a tiny, crescent-shaped island west of the mainland in 1684. They made this the seat of the exiled Belestram Sylvaeri, where he and Illynora lived in peace for a time with their first and only child together, naming her Serinwë after the ancient matriarch of the Almenodrim. Back on the mainland, a series of disagreements between Kairn Ithelanen and Queen Renn of the Dominion led to the formation of the Gladewynn Mercenary Company. Queen Renn would later be challenged to a duel for the crown by Awaiti Aureon, who had previously been High Princess of the Dominion following the Bronze Rebellion. After Awaiti won the duel and became Queen, it was her first and final act to dissolve the Dominion of Malin, ceding Caras Eldar and the Dominion’s lands to the now Kingdom of Gladewynn. Many Elves flocked to the island for refuge, including the majority of House Silma. With the island’s population swiftly expanding, Belestram and Illynora realized that it was no longer a seat for the exiled House Sylvaeri, but the beginning of a new home for the Elven people. At this time, Belestram reclaimed the title of Sea Prince, the traditional title of the leader of the Almenodrim. He and Illynora jointly presided over the Seastone Court. Many practices of the ancient Almenodrim were revived, such as the making of Greater Renarias, otherwise known as great sea glass mosaics. In Arcas, what was once a tiny island became a great seastone citadel known as the Principality of Aegrothond, named for Aegnor Starfinder, firstborn son of Sylvaen. Belestram was the High Prince and ultimately responsible for the external affairs of the nation, including international relations, trade, and the military. Illynora was the High Princess and ultimately responsible for the domestic affairs of the nation, including stewardry, law, and religious affairs. The central cavern of the citadel housed the three orders which were the heartblood of society at the time: the Institute of Healing, founded by Illynora and later passed into the hands of Eraami Aureon; the Maehr’evar Order (otherwise known as the Guardians of Knowledge), founded by Elros Silma and Cullas Sylvaeri; and Sylvaen’s Hammer (the smiths’ order), founded by Fëanor Sylvaeri. The Crown of Elvenesse Belestram and Illynora abdicated to Fëanor in the early days of Arcas. He became the High Prince of Aegrothond and took on the title of Sea Prince. Under his rule, the bitter conflict between House Sylvaeri and the House of Ithel’an (formerly known as Clan Ithelanen) came to an end with the signing of the Compact of Lathadlen. Fëanor reigned for over a century, one of the longest reigns of any Elven monarch seen throughout history. Many events happened under his rule, but the most impactful was the merging of the Principality of Aegrothond with the Wood Elven Matriarchy of Siramenor under the leadership of Awaiti Sirame (formerly Aureon). The new nation which emerged from this union was known as the Crown of Elvenesse. Fëanor Sylvaeri’s reignFëanor reigned for a stint of 105 years, from Arcas to early Almaris.Basic historical timeline: Spoiler I. Abdication of Belestram to Fëanor. II. The shorter lived Lathadlen Compact and de-escalation of the Elven Cold War. III. Elven Union War which was won by the Empire of Man following the Sack of Alderyn. Afterwards the War of Two Emperors happened, Fëanor being on the side of the Josephites who lost the war. IV. Maintained friendly allegiance alongside the Dwarves and Halflings for most of his reign reasons involving the security of the southern rivers from falling into human hands. There were repeated attempts by the human empires to buy or obtain those lands as a means to attack the dwarves. Aegrothond's location utterly blocked the humans from entering that strait. V. By large avoiding most global conflicts except for threats to the realm, most notably being key participation in the Voidal Tear Crisis alongside the Mother Grove and allies in the south and a leading figure among the Firewatch Alliance. The key battle of the Inferi War being the turning point at Aegrothond, the citadel facing a crucial battle that resulted in breaking the charge of the Inferi. Had they taken Aegrothond, they would have had a foothold on the entire rest of the continent. VI. With the eventual dissolution of Irrinor, Awaiti Aureon and Fëanor came to an agreement with the founding of Siramenor and the union of the Wood Elven people alongside Aegrothond, forming the basis of the Green Priesthood and all Druidic Circles entering into Almaris (It should be noted that the Father Circle started in Siramenor and were under Fëanor's reign before parting, but did have their foundations there). This was also the founding of Elvenesse as its form as the city of Amaethea to be founded in Almaris. VII. In his final decade, facing several external pressures, wars (Irehearts, orcs, high Elves, etc.) even attempted assassinations on his council members, and growing tired, Fëanor abdicated with a close vote with Evar'tir as his successor, having staved off the external political bodies trying to plant their own figureheads and officials on the throne. By the time of abdication, Fëanor would have spent over half his life as High Prince at the time, perhaps factoring in his decision to abdicate. When Fëanor retired, he chose Evar’tir Oranor as his successor. High Prince Evar’tir and his wife, High Princess Medli, ruled in tandem. This later became the Crown of Amaethea under the rule of High Prince Evar’tir and High Princess Medli Oranor. Evar’tir Oranor’s reignEvar’tir reigned for a stint of 56 years, within the realm of Almaris.Basic historical timeline: Spoiler I. Fëanor abdicates the throne, thrusting the nation into a period of internal strife and uncertainty. A vocal minority of the populace finding itself at odds with the seated Council, and with Fëanor’s choice of successor. After a brief, yet tumultuous series of proceedings, Evar’tir ratifies his claim to the throne. II. Evar’tir ascends to the throne on the 1st of Snow’s Maiden, 22 SA. He was crowned just a year after confirming his succession, and his first acts as High Prince were to continue the diplomatic policies cultivated by Cullas Sylvaeri in efforts to foster relations with allies across Almaris. III. Foreign powers including the Trade Federation of Sutica and the War Nation of Krugmar attempt to engage Elvenesse in both martial and diplomatic conflict. A short-lived alliance with Haelun’or proved fruitful, allowing the two elven powers to triumph over their aggressors. IV. Evar’tir and his wife Medli are wed by Aedrie Sirame atop the citadel. V. Azdromoth and his forces assault Amathea, razing it to the ground and forcing a period of rebuilding. Amathea burns on the 15th of The Grand Harvest, 47 SA VI. The nation’s official name is changed from ‘The Crown of Elvenesse’ to ‘The Crown of Amaethea’, with the new capital designated ‘Caras y Tennallar’ on the 4th of The Amber Cold, 51 SA. VII. Internal strife and attempted revolt is brought to heel by Oranor and his forces. A series of coup plots headed by treacherous Puerokar and Tahorran families culminate in the inferno of the northern docks and the execution of those responsible. VIII. Following the final expulsion of deviants under his rule, relations with foreign powers greatly improve, including the rest of the Elven states. Talks of reforming a Malin’or begin. IX. Though his efforts eventually proven to be in vain; one of Evar’tir’s last acts as High Prince is to conscribe the state’s fealty towards a greater united Elvendom under the banners of Malin’or. X. After over a half century of ruling, Evar’tir abdicated the throne on the 10th of The Grand Harvest, 78 SA. XI. Following the Oranor’s departure from power, the nation spiraled into a derelict state for decades, left largely unattended by an administrative body. The throne is assumed by Idril Sylvaeri on the 4th of The First Seed, 111 SA Once the Principality of Aegrothond and Matriarchy of Siramenor merged in Almaris to form the Crown of Elvenesse, the delicate balance between the Almenodrim and Wood Elven cultures became overwhelmed by the dominance of Wood Elven culture and Aspectism. This makes it difficult to identify the nuance of how the two cultures existed in harmony and merged over the course of centuries. Examples of a blended culture include Greater Renarias, or mosaics, depicting the Aspects and the Mani, and combining Almenorean traditions of sailing and the ocean with Aspectist traditions of diving for seashells in honor of Hamatsa, Prince of Dolphins. There was also the revival of Thalassa worship by Idril Sylvaeri in Almaris, the daughter of Belestram Sylvaeri and Medli Oranor, the Dolphin Priestess. Modernity The history of the Crown of Amathine is a tapestry woven through the annals of time, tracing its lineage back to ancient epochs and principled realms. It finds its roots in the hallowed chronicles of the Holy Princedom of Malinor, an era that echoes with the legacy of its noble forebears. Through the corridors of history, the realm's journey continues, connecting with the modern Crown of Elvenesse, a successor state that carries the torch of its predecessors. As a united haven for the descendants of Malin, Amathine stands as a testament to the enduring thread of continuity that runs through its heritage. Central to this lineage is the reign of High Princess Idril Sylvaeri, a chapter marked by her visionary leadership and steadfast resolve. In the wake of turmoil caused by two misguided leaders, Idril emerged as a beacon of hope, choosing to bear the mantle of High Princess on the 4th of The First Seed, 111 SA. With unwavering determination, she embarked on a journey to bring stability and brightness to Amaethea, steering the realm through the storms of chaos and instability. Even prior to her ascension, Idril recognized the imperative of unity and reconciliation. She ardently worked to mend the fragmented relationship with the Principality of Celia'nor, healing the wounds of past conflicts caused by former leaders. Her efforts towards cohesion formed the foundation for a realm that values both its internal harmony and external friendships. Amidst the stability Idril nurtured, a dark shadow emerged from the depths—caverns tainted by the Mori’quessir and menacing spiders. In this hour of peril, Idril united nations under the banner of valor and justice. Launching the valiant Dawnhold Attack, she sought to drive back the encroaching darkness. Although met with defeat due to the departure of Celia'nor, her commitment to safeguarding the realm remained unshaken. Idril's resilience knew no bounds, culminating in the forging of The Sol Entente—an alliance formed on the 24th of Snow’s Maiden, 123 SA. This unyielding coalition, comprising the Silver State of Haelun'or, the Kingdom of Balian, The Iron Horde, and The Crown of Amaethea, stood resolute against the tide of adversity, determined to protect the realm from looming threats. In the critical juncture of the Fall of Amaethea, High Princess Idril Sylvaeri's indomitable spirit emerged as a guiding light. Leading a resolute defense against the menacing Hydra and encroaching Mori, she faced overwhelming odds with unyielding determination. While the battle ended in defeat, Idril's unwavering resolve ensured the safety of her people and allies. Amidst the chaos and darkness, her leadership showcased unparalleled courage and steadfast devotion to her realm. Notably, amidst the chaos of battle, it was Idril Sylvaeri who stood as a shield for HIS ROYAL MAJESTY, Aleksandr II, the future king of Hanseti and Ruska. Her actions transcended the battlefield, as she safeguarded not only her realm but also the life of the young monarch. In this moment of dire peril, her valor not only protected her people but also illuminated the path towards a brighter future. Unity found its embodiment in the alliance with the Ranaleth clan, descendants of Celia'nor. Their loyalty to the Crown under Idril's embrace brought forth reconciliation and a sense of shared purpose. However, this unity drew the ire of Celia'nor, leading to a treacherous scheme to eliminate the High Princess. The Sol Entente, vigilant and protective of their allies, uncovered Celia'nor's deceitful plot and exposed their faults to the entire realm on the 4th of Sun’s Smile, 123 SA, titled: Heed the Warning. In response to their treachery, The Sol Entente banished Celia'nor from their lands, standing with Amathea and the Crown. Houses, Seed-halls & Clans The social fabric is woven with a diverse array of Houses, Clans, and Seeds, each serving as a vital cornerstone of the resplendent culture. These distinct structures define the bonds of kinship and camaraderie that form the very essence of Amathine's society. Differing from the Wood Elves' Seeds and the Clans, a lineage seeking the esteemed status of a 'Great House' must provide undeniable proof of their direct descent from one of Malin's primary sons. If a lineage does not fulfill this requirement but remains dedicated to upholding the Almenodrim's Tenets and Laws or are recognized as a mere family separated from the Almenodrim, they are designated as a 'House' until granted nobility by the ruling Princely House. Such grants of nobility are rare occurrences, and while the importance of bloodline is significant, these families (as well as Elves without an established House) are not met with scorn. At the pinnacle of the social order stand the Houses, distinguished by their blooded family lineage and their deep-seated connection to the Crown. Each House bears a solemn Oath to the Crown, a sacred commitment that cements their allegiance to the realm's sovereign. Through these Houses, the realm finds its noble heritage and continuity, as the blooded families carry the legacy of their ancestors with grace and dignity. Within the realm, Clans emerge as sprawling families, whose existence transcends bloodlines alone. These large families are sustained and enriched by the initiation of new individuals into their ranks through warrior traditions such as hunting and foraging. The Clans foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie, instilling a spirit of unity and resilience among their members. The bond forged through shared experiences and pursuits strengthens the Clan's ties, creating a tight-knit community that cherishes its heritage and traditions. Seeds, on the other hand, represent smaller families that are perpetuated through recruitment. These intimate groups form through shared affinities, interests, or ideals, rather than solely through familial ties. Seeds are characterized by their close-knit nature, as members come together due to their common passions, beliefs, or goals. In the realm of Amathine, Seeds play a crucial role in cultivating diversity and fostering a sense of belonging for individuals who may not have been born into blooded families or large Clans. The amalgamation of Houses, Clans, and Seeds constitutes the vibrant tapestry of Amathine's social structure, reflecting a realm where kinship is not solely confined to blood relations but is extended through shared experiences, beliefs, and aspirations. As the members of these familial and communal units interact with one another, they breathe life into the resplendent culture of Amathine, forever cherishing the bonds of kinship that transcend traditional definitions and embrace the beauty of unity in its various forms. Great HousesThe officially recognized Great Houses among the people of Amathine are listed below: House Sylvaeri Spoiler The foremost and most prominent lineage among the Almenodrim, both in antiquity and contemporary times, is renowned for its direct lineage to Malin's eldest son, Sylvaen. While commonly referred to as the "Sylvaeri" in everyday conversation, they bear the more accurate designation of the esteemed House of Sylvaen. The narrative of this family and their lineage is interwoven into the fabric of Elven chronicles, and they have assumed the roles of guiding lights and coordinators for the Almenodrin bloodlines ever since the inception of Aegrothond in the eras following the Great Exile. Presently, they hold the title of Princes within that realm, extending their sovereignty over the expanse of Amathine's lands. Leading the House presently are Idril Sylvaeri and Fëanor Sylvaeri. House Telemnar Spoiler Ranking second in esteem within the Almenodrim lineage is the subsidiary House of Telemnar, originating shortly after the establishment of the inaugural Citadel of Aegrothond. They assert their lineage's seniority through the ancestry of Telemnar Sylvaeri, an esteemed mariner of antiquity and guardian of the vast oceans, whose valor was demonstrated in repelling a corsair siege upon the time-honored trade outpost of Ellerina. While often lauded as unparalleled seafarers by their fellow kin, they have also demonstrated remarkable competence as proficient government officials in more recent times. At present, the leadership of the House is held by Olórin Telemnar. House Silma Spoiler Also identified as the Siol lineage, this house experienced its zenith of influence during the era of the Dominion of Malin, a period marked by Loriens Silma's leadership as High Prince of the Dominion. Operating under the guidance of Lord-Keeper Miklaeil, they provided crucial assistance to House Sylvaeri in Aegrothond, and as a result, the Flame of Malin has continued to burn within that stronghold since the Gladewynnite War. Distinguishing themselves as a somewhat distinctive house, their traditions tend to lean towards those of the Wood Elves, and they have a proclivity for welcoming new members into their fold more frequently than any other family. Currently, the Keeper of the Flame is Elros Silma, a seasoned Mali' among the Almenodrim, renowned for his enduring dedication to his people and his house. House Kaeronin Spoiler Recognized within specific circles as pirate lords and commanding a degree of apprehension, the House of Kaer is fundamentally dedicated to the vast expanse of the Sea. Proficient in the arts of sailing and shipcraft, they exhibit both ferocity in combat and unwavering determination in pursuit of honor. Despite their lineage tracing back to High Elves, they are regarded as Almenodrim due to their ancestry stemming from Kaer, a notable great-grandson of Malin who played an early role as an ally to the other Houses upon their return from the Great Exile. The current leadership of the house is under the stewardship of Lord Kailu Kaeronin. Clans Clan Ranaleth Spoiler Originating from the secluded village of Luthadel nestled deep within the northern mountains, the Ranaleths are deeply rooted in toil and determination. The village thrived on the efforts of its elven inhabitants who tirelessly mined coal, hunted, fished, and transported goods to nearby settlements. Despite their prominence in the village, the Ranaleth family did not concern themselves with governance, valuing the ethos that hard work yields its rewards. This principle endures through the ages, as long as one contributes, they find friendship with the Ranaleths. Regrettably, such humble origins often face challenges. Lacking a trained militia, Luthadel fell prey to marauders and miscreants, leading to its downfall. The Ranaleth family's history was erased, leaving remnants scattered across the continent, unaware of each other or reluctant to rebuild. Generations later, the youngest Ranaleths resolved to rewrite their tale, to forge a new identity. In pursuit of a fresh beginning, the Ranaleths sought refuge in Almaris, particularly Celia’nor. Here, they established a new branch that welcomed non-pure blooded Ranaleths, embracing the scarred elf Ava as a guide, now known as Ava Ranaleth. Assisted by Ranni, one of the family's leaders, a new trajectory was charted. Nobles and peasants alike united under a common future, gaining prominence within the Celia’nor culture. With the protection of the new ERA's warriors, the Ranaleth lineage finds itself fortified, ensuring the safeguarding of their ancestry within their newfound haven. Seed Halls The VulnrithFounded by the Red Bastard of Belestram Sylvaeri, the Vulnrith Seed serves as guides for the lost, custodians of memory, chroniclers of history, and protectors of valuable artifacts. Their paramount mission is to ensure the continuity of stories, drawing lessons from the past and guiding those in need. All souls are considered redeemable, provided they earnestly seek it, and no departed individual is left forgotten, regardless of their legacy. At present, the Vulnrith community resides in the Crown of Amathine on Aevos, under the leadership of Matriarch Sonna, who oversees the Glade of Hileia. This glade stands as a tribute to the Wild Faith and those who have passed, featuring shrines to the Aspects, statues of the Mani, and graves. Sonna, along with her family, diligently maintains the statues and tombstones, organizing public commemorations for the deceased interred within the Glade. The patron of the Vulnrith Seed is the Fox Mani Sonnos, the Prince of Vulpines. His representation of cleverness and wit aligns with the values of the seed, deemed essential to overcome life's challenges. The Founder also embraces a folklore that believes following a fox's fleeting tail leads to good fortune. The official faith of the Vulnrith is elnarnsae’ame, The Wild Faith, which members are encouraged to follow. While it's not mandatory, kin are free to practice any belief system as long as it doesn't harm Nature. As long as the Vulnrith respect the wilderness and their patron's values, their choices are honored. The seed's symbol, the ilmyumier, takes the form of a fox, often winding up an arm in shades of gold. Those who tread the Ichorian path may opt for a red ilmyumier. Druidic Vulnrith usually align with the Ichorian or Sage path, both of which the Founder was guided through. The Vulnrith learn to be cautious of magic outside of Druidism, with the Matriarch holding the final say and potential for disownment based on the magic's impact on nature. The gravest offense within the family is harboring or becoming a voidal mage, resulting in immediate disownment and possibly death. The PrisgothThe Prisgoth Seed, in reverence of the panther Mani Norra, embodies the ethos of self-sufficiency and the art of hunting. With a deep connection to nature, their way of life revolves around responsible gathering, efficient hunting, and resourceful living. The central aim of this seed is to foster a community of scholars and inquisitive minds, offering those who become part of it access to an extensive array of resources. The process of becoming a member entails undergoing a series of trials, followed by the completion of designated rites of passage. By joining, individuals commit themselves to an everlasting pursuit of knowledge, earning the title of a true scholar. Based within Amathine, this seed adheres to the wild faith and the laws of the wood elven kingdoms. While seeking respect, the ultimate goal is to establish alliances, not only within the diverse seeds of the mali’ame but also extending to scholarly groups across Aevos. The Maehr’uhier firmly reject the notion that knowledge belongs exclusively to any particular faction, instead viewing it as a shared treasure to be imparted and taught to others. As a result, they are consistently open to collaborating with others.[OOC] Spoiler Hello, I want to express my immense gratitude to my friends who assisted me in creating this post that we've been collaborating on for the past few weeks. @Juno.@Deer__@RIGOR@Toffee@MalchediaelVult@GammaRose I'm sorry for its length, but I sincerely hope you find it enjoyable.
