To the gallant riders and noble houses of Aevos,

The Commonwealth of the Petra is proud to announce a Royal Hastilude to be hosted at the newly rehabilitated Vallagne Dustpit. This is a testament to the tireless efforts of River Court members, whose dedication has brought this historic arena back to its former glory. With the jousting lists now fully brought up to code, thanks to the esteemed guidance of the International Jousting Association of Aevos, Vallagne stands ready to welcome competitors from all across the continent for a grand spectacle of skill, chivalry, and camaraderie.

This event will feature not only the traditional Joust, where riders shall test their courage and prowess, but also a series of mounted games to be tested by those brave enough to partake, each designed to challenge both aim and cooperation. From precision strikes on horseback to tandem challenges that require a partner’s unwavering trust, the Hastilude promises an exhilarating display of equestrian mastery.

The event will culminate with the much-anticipated Petra Mach, a thrilling race through the sprawling Meadowlands. Riders will navigate a carefully marked route, stopping at various checkpoints to ensure adherence to the course. Only those who meet every checkpoint will qualify for victory, and the first to cross the finish line will earn not only glory but substantial prizes.

The Joust

At the Vallagne Dustpit, each jousting match will consist of five tilts, where knights will charge at one another with lances, aiming to unseat their opponent. Victory will go to the first competitor to successfully unhorse their rival, showcasing both skill and precision. However, should all five tilts pass without a clear winner, the competitors must dismount and resolve their contest with a clash of fists, proving their mettle and determination beyond the saddle. This combination of tradition and grit ensures that each bout is as thrilling as it is decisive, embodying the spirit of Petran valor.

Rules of the Joust

1. Honor Above All: Competitors must conduct themselves with respect and decorum, upholding the chivalric spirit of the joust.
2. Fair Conduct: Lances will be inspected prior to the competition to ensure no tampering. Wooden tourney lances must be used for safety.
3. Rounds: Matches will be conducted in elimination rounds, with riders securing their win by unhorsing their opponents.
4. Victory Conditions: The competitor with the most points or the last unhorsed rider will be declared the winner of their match.

 

The Petra Mach

The Petra Mach will challenge riders to navigate the sprawling Meadowlands with precision and speed. Each participant will be provided with a detailed map outlining the designated route, which they must strictly adhere to in order to remain eligible for victory. Along the course, black-and-white checkered banners will mark the way, serving as both guideposts and visual affirmations of the proper path. At various checkpoints, stationed officials will confirm each rider's adherence to the route, ensuring fairness and accuracy in the competition. This thrilling race combines strategy, skill, and determination, promising a spectacle worthy of the Petran springtime celebration.

Rules of The Petra Mach

1. Route Adherence: Riders must follow the prescribed route, marked by checkpoints. Straying from the route will result in immediate disqualification.
2. Route Verification: Competitors must be certain to be hailed at each of the three checkpoints by the stationed officials.
3. Safety First: Horses must be properly shod, and riders are encouraged to wear protective gear. Unsportsmanlike conduct or interference with other riders is grounds for disqualification.
4. Finish Line Glory: The first three riders to cross the finish line, having adhered to all rules, will be awarded the corresponding prizes.

Audience Participation

Audience participation will be at the heart of the Vallagne Dustpit's festivities, with the Valkonen Bookies taking wagers on both the ultimate victor of the joust and the winner of The Petra Mach. For those seeking more immediate thrills, spectators are encouraged to shift their allegiances during the joust itself, moving between the crimson and teal sides of the stands to cheer for the horseman they believe will triumph in each individual round. This lively interaction will not only add an extra layer of excitement but will also allow the crowd to become an integral part of the day’s competitive spirit.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for:

• Jousting Champion: First, second, and third place in the Joust will take home the Mina prizes of 50, 30, and 20, respectively. Additionally, the first place winner will be awarded a special lance.
• Petra Mach Champion: The Mina prizes are the same as above, as well as a special saddle to adorn your steed with.
