INTRODUCTION
Well, it’s been some time since our last update, so I’m here to catch us all up! Within the last few months, the Community Team has gone through many, many, changes - and hopefully for the better in most ways! Some changes have been internal, and some changes have been made externally while focusing our work towards improving the New Player and Wandering Soul experience!

STATE OF THE UNION
It’s been a long time coming. We’ve hit the ground running ever since the start of summer, and I’m proud to share with you some of the work we’ve been up to.
The main task we took was to evaluate the New Player Experience™ holistically, from the moment a new player is interested in LotC all the way until they are integrated into a player group and can confidently say they are a member of LotC. You’ll notice that some gaps along this journey have been filled, whether when a player first joins (Tutorial Island) or when they embark out from Cloud Temple for the very first time (Genesis). Our current projects aim at improving the very first “touch points” of where a player might go when they’re interested in LotC. These fall under our ongoing projects of Soul Island & the Wiki, which the lovely @Demon_Lilly and @HogoBojo will explain later, respectively.
Internally, we’ve focused a lot on creating a more positive and sustainable atmosphere that moves away from the archaic system of initial excitement, overworking, and eventual burnout. This means lots of structural redesign and much needed organization. We’re not done yet, but the results so far have been really exciting.
Thank you to the Community for supporting us along this journey. My most sincere appreciation goes out to my team - I’m just a guy who talks a lot. These folks make it happen.

RETENTION
It’s been a while since we’ve given you your Player Retention fix, so it’s high time we get that delivered. I want to preface this by saying that this data is imprecise, so take it with a grain of salt. We have an internal tool to measure activity precisely - this is how we used to discern “Weak Activity” from regular “Activity”. The tool has been acting up, however, and was only really functional half the time. While we are confident that the broad implications of this report are true, the true percentages may be off by a few points. As always, you can check our data by clicking here.

New Player Retention: 20% -> 23.3% (+3.3%)
New Player Applications: 165 players -> 206 players (+25%)
Quit First Day: 34.8% -> 10.1% (-24.7%)
Quit First Week: 25.2% -> 50.50% (+25.3%)
Quit Later On: 29.6% -> 29.7% (~)Our retention rate is the only thing I’m unsure about, due to using our precise tool for only half the time and eliminating the “Weak Activity” category. At best, we’ve got a slight increase. At worst, it’s nearly the same, if not a slight decrease in retention.
Meanwhile, our new applications exploded in growth. We’ve been seeing abnormally high numbers where applications can hit more than twenty a day. This is good and bad. Pouring lots of water into our metaphorical tub means little if there’s still a giant hole ripped out at the bottom. The New Player Retention Plugin (Genesis) has been delayed for quite a while, but it will pick up traction in the near future. We expect retention to increase significantly once it’s completed.
It also appears that our Unretained players (those who are not considered active) are tending to quit later in the week instead of on the first day by a dramatic margin. This is a healthy first step. This positive change may be attributed to the addition of Tutorial Island.
Other changes to consider between this current retention report and the previous report would be the reworking of our Application Standards and /apply, which will be explained below. It’s also useful to mention that Monk Guidance as a program was discontinued in this time period, so it’s absence has relatively little effect on retention.

APRIL
During April, before changes were made to application processes and such, we saw a total of 497 applications submitted and reviewed. Out of these, 182 new players were accepted! While we saw lots of applications this month, we noticed a large number of them were denied, with the accepted/denied ratio being about 30/70. Our goal is to have as many people accepted onto the server as we can, while still maintaining our server’s quality.

MAY
In May, @Treshure was made into our new, official, Community Team Admin! With this rather large change, other new changes, of course, followed as well this month. The first of the revisions, due to the removal of NPCs as well as new ideas to improve the New Player Experience™, was the implementation of a new and improved Tutorial Island!
New changes were also made to our application standards for Whitelist Applications, the most notable update being the requirement to include 'two lore references' and 'ten sentences at minimum’ for their biography - revised to only require one lore reference and six sentences instead! These two requirements are among the most common mistakes for new applicants. While application standards for players have relaxed some, staff policies have also changed to allow Community Team Members to “expedite” pending applications, allowing new players to be whitelisted onto LotC sooner. This means if one team member sets an application on pending, and another team member notices later that the required changes have been made on the application, said team member can go ahead and accept the application, allowing for a shorter wait and response time for whitelisting!
Now, back to our regularly scheduled application data for this month! In May, we saw a total of 457 applications submitted and reviewed. Out of these, 207 new players were accepted! During this month, we were just the smallest bit short of a 50/50 accepted/denied ratio- perhaps as a result of the new application standards?

__________JUNE
Through June, no changes were made to the application process, but instead the process for those who review them, the Community Team! In previous months, as many may have noticed, month-by-month we see some team members doing a tremendously larger amount of applications per month compared to other members of the team. In hopes to more evenly distribute the work for applications, we’ve established a new system. The Community Team divides into two groups- Team Alpha, week one; and Team Bravo week two. Let me explain: Team Alpha works on reviewing applications during week one of the rotation, while Team Bravo works on other commitments and projects they have on CT; and vice-versa once week two rolls around. This change is still in a trial stage to see the results for response times and team-morale, but it is with these changes that we as a team attempt to even the load, as well as to prevent burn-out for those who do crazy amounts of applications in a month, or even a week.
Now, once again, back again to the application data for last month, June! During June, we saw a total of 366 applications submitted and reviewed. Out of these, 209 new players were accepted! Our accepted/denied ratio was just off of 50/50. This month, we saw more applications accepted than denied, which we haven’t had previously since December 2020.

During July, we saw a total of 376 applications submitted and reviewed. Out of these, 211 new players were accepted! Our accepted/denied ratio was just off 50/50 once again! Once again we get to see more applications accepted than denied this month as well! Hopefully this trend continues in months to follow!

COMMITMENT UPDATES
Broom Crew - @audyush
The goal with this project is to “clean up” (hence the name) any existing guides we feel need updating, as well as create new ones. Since our start in mid-March, we’ve updated things here and there, including a new-and-improved Frequently-Asked Questions post, as well as an Application Guide! This guide was written keeping in mind what questions we notice are asked the most, as well as what applicants are most often set on pending or denied for - walking them through every minuscule step of the application process. With the release of this guide, it is now what new players are directed to when they run the command /apply in-game, as opposed to an empty application to fill in with no direction of what to do!
Wiki - @HogoBojoHowdy, everyone! During the previous three months, the Wiki Team has continued to work hard on maintaining, updating, and adding additional things to the Wiki. As always, we believe that the Wiki is a valuable source, and we wish that players can reference it often as a reliable source of information. Over these months, we’ve worked on a few projects to improve the wiki, with some complete and several in progress to come at a later date. One project that was completed was the update to the war pages. Now, all the main war pages require their edits to be reviewed by certain Wiki Team Members before the page is updated. This was added with the intention of decreasing back and forth squabbles, as well as allowing time for edits to be verified before the page is updated with the information. Additionally, we started the rework on the race pages as well as the main racial page. This isn’t out as of now but is something that has been worked on quite a bit in the past few months. Alongside this, we also have several other projects that will be mentioned and released at a later date.

Soul Island - Headed by @Demon_Lilly
Soul Island has been a slow start because we want to make sure the experience given to our souls is the best. Soul Island is similar to the New Player Tutorial Island, but we are putting in the measures of showing off our server and making souls want to apply! It's also a place they can learn more about our server while they wait. Soul Island will be composed of amazing builds, showcases of community art, and the explanations of Minecraft Roleplay and what it entails.

AUGUST’S DIRECTION
- Goals Over the Last Three Months -
The past few months, CT has been working on welcoming new members into our team to help keep whitelist applications flowing and giving our team some much-needed new structure! We now have a system with applications, where two groups rotate every week, helping us prevent the well-known CT Application burnout.- This Month’s Goals -
Looking into the future, we want to continue making our team run smoothly while avoiding burnout among our team members!

For the only nation built entirely of farfolks, it’s an interesting choice to change a portion of its population by making them elves- so I’m curious to see how the new culture goes!

SpoilerCosimo Antony, cousin to Natasha d’Amato; though, at times, the familial roles often switched. Neither had much family, but they had each other. Both their mothers already had passed, too soon in their own time, and the death of their fathers, or so one thought, was another shared tragedy between the two. Over time, the two grew more as siblings did, aging under the same roof, guiding each other as if they were from the same parent- and many times, Natasha looked up to the oldest Falcone son as more of a father figure, respecting and trusting him in that fashion.

“Gracia Meadow. Falcone, of course.” a younger Cosimo introduced one day with a small girl bundled within his arms.
“A beautiful name, Gracia. It issa good choice.” a then-teenaged Illatian complimented. Natasha was often stern with others, unwelcoming to most, but her eyes softened at the sight of the child, Gracia. Her nipote, and she was the girl’s zia, then- at least to each other.
“It seems we are the only d'Amato-Orlovs then..” Natasha realized then, exchanging a glance towards her younger brother, Anton.
“Y'don't have to be. Both the owners of your namesakes are gone.” The Falcone interjected, “Can take the Falcone name if you wish.. We're already such close kin, we should share a legacy.”
Anton Fiore rubbed the back of his neck with such a proposition, seemingly contemplating the hypothetical. “Naty?” He asked, with an unsureness in his voice he would rarely let onto.
Although her parents had been gone for many years by that point, she was hesitant. “If'a vy wish too, vy 'ave'a no problem with that.” she answered in turn to the request, but she was yet to answer for herself.
“You don' need to feel pressured, Nata.” Cosimo told her then, “But I figure for a number of reasons- the one that crosses my mind the most is Ludo.” The man offered no further urging, “The offer is always there. To merge our namesakes. And I would not blame you if you wished to keep them. They are all that remains from those before you- aside from yourselves, of course.”
The Orlov never gave the Falcone a clear answer- neither accepting nor denying his offer.

Having spent many of her recent years within the capital city of the Holy Orenian Empire, Providence, Natasha lost touch with her dear cousin. No visits or letters were sent to either person from either person. “Vy should reach out..” Natasha thought, “Let ‘em know Vica is alright.” she conjured up as an excuse. It was then she decided to write a letter for the Falcone. In dark ink, black as the night, she’d write to her eldest cousin:

“To my dear cousin Cosimo,
I fear I have not heard much from you in recent years, and I was not sure if Ludovica or Gracia had either. I am yet to visit you at the Falcone manor since my last visit, for your dinner party. I know I left in a rather sour mood, but I only hope that has not left a stain on our relationship. I care much for you, Cosimo, and want the best for you and your family. I have only the same hopes as you for them- to honor the Falcone name.
When we last spoke, Ludovica was still not home again with you. I am unsure if the two of you have reconciled, but in case you two haven’t, I want you to know that she is safe here in Providence. I’ve recently purchased a shop with a friend of yours, Victoria. There are rooms above our future shop that myself and Victoria will be boarding in, and I’ve given Ludovica permission to stay with us as well. I want the best for her, as I know you do as well, so I’ve also allowed her the opportunity to join us with our business endeavors to further her craft as a tailor. She’s talented, that one. You should visit and see some of her work, I am sure you would be proud.

A woman, now much older than she’d care to admit, froze as she caught word of a tragic event. The news of a death - the death of a friend. “It can no’ be…” she’d mumble to herself. All too familiar with death, the Illatian crumbled upon the sofa of her shared home on Marshal Lane, where she grew up. She’d have, of course, grabbed a bottle of liquor, no glass was needed for such an occasion though. Falling back in her ways, she’d drown herself - if not but an attempt to drown out her feelings.

From the day they’d have met, Natasha had always warned the young d’Arkent girl of the dangers of the world.
“Did vy get vyr toy?” a young Natasha, only but a young girl then, asked as she’d run into a friend she’d met but the previous Saint’s Day.
“Ai, the boy with the yellow hair gottit for me~ And I got this too!” Rhea held up a golden teddy bear, shaking it around for a brief moment as if it was the most prized possession she could ever hold, “He's fluffy- Oh! Ahhhm, did you ever get a coh-jee-noh?” She switches the topic in a flash, remembering Natasha’s words from their previous encounter.
“Neit. Vy have’a no’ found ‘em yet…” she explained in turn, a discouraged sound in her voice, but hopeful still.

“She died too young… had ‘er whole life ahead of’a ‘er.” Natasha thought, doing nothing but ponder as she sipped from the bottle.

She always was an innocent girl. From the day the two had met, up until their final exchange.
“Well, I'll hellp you look! Maybe he's juss hiding!” she had tried to assure the d’Amato, always kind in that way, but she was yet to believe the girl’s words.
“Neit… Vy do no’ think 'e is’a hiding, vy have’a no’ seen 'em in years now,” Natasha spoke in her horrid accent, “But vy think vy may know where 'e is” Natasha glanced up and down the street for anyone passing by or listening in, preparing to whisper to the d'Arkent. “Vy think 'e was’a kidnapped…” The Illatian told, always one to fear the worst.
Rhea, in her young age, was of course confused by such a phrase; “Wass that mean? He's taking a nap?” the girl questioned, curious as always, but hidden of the harsh realities of the world around her, as most could only hope their child would.
Frustrated by the child’s ignorance, Natasha shook her head and let out a sigh, but still explained her words to the girl, “Neit…it means ‘e was taken away by’a stranger”

“How could this have happened?” Natasha all but thought. “Vy told ‘er… Vy told her not to trust ‘em.” she hissed aloud- growing angry then.

“Oh, thass bad! Uhmmm,” Rhea announced as if such wasn’t obvious, “Maybe we should teeelll… Oh! My gray-granpa, he's wit the tall soldier guys, maybe we can assk them!”
“Neit, neit..” the d’Amato glanced around again, “Vy do no' know who vy can’a trust… and vy should no’ trust ‘em either!” the then-paranoid child placed a finger up to her own mouth as if to tell the girl to keep quiet of their secret. “All of ‘em could be'a part of et”

“Vy were familia… vy did no’ deserve to go.” the woman whispered finally as the alcohol consumed her, drifting her off to sleep upon her own sofa.

Thank you for all our RP together on these two characters, Mona. From coughing with her mouth open to walking around Providence with no shoes on her feet, Rhea was, and always will be, such a wonderful character, and a blast to interact with! Can't wait to have new RP adventures with you!

PARTICIPATION
If one chooses to partake in such events, there’s a small fee for participants that will contribute toward the winner’s prize pool. Sign-ups are available prior to the start of the event, though walk-ups are still welcomed.Combatants will be charged ten minae to enter the competition, though those who register early are granted a reduced entry fee of five minae.

Combatants will be paired at random, crawling their way through the ranks to claim the title as Champion of the East, as well as a minae prize.
GAMBLING
Spectators may bet on competitors for who they believe is more likely to win the match. The minimum starting bet can be no less than ten minae, though it may raise by any increment.DRINKS
Drinks will be available to purchase for those to enjoy while they watch the fights take place, provided by The Lumpy Pumpkin Tavern in Veritas.Each denizen from each nation of Almaris is welcomed to attend and participate in Veritas’ First Fight Night.
