I'd say Human. They usually want to live it up before they face their mortality. Halflings in LoTC are generally more suited towards where ever they're settled and are content with not leaving it as they fear much of the outside world.

With the new launcher you don't have to downgrade! Hit the New Profile button and chose the older version. It allows you to swap back and forth too!

downgrading is actually really easy now. Just go to the launcher, and press "edit profile" and than go down to "use version" and select 1.5.2 see? very easy.
