What circumstances led to this ban?

 

I would like to begin by saying i don’t believe a person can change in the span of 5-6 months but I do firmly believe over the course of said months a person’s mental state can be greatly improved- and I firmly believe that most of the issues that you may have placed on me stem from that, both my mental state and mind set at the time which fuelled one another negatively. You see, throughout the duration of my ban I cut contact with a lot of people as they kept coming to me saying x staff member said the real reason behind my ban was y- and it was getting quite overwhelming.


During the first month of my ban, i truly felt abandoned by everyone i had been around with for months and left instantly, then I felt horrendous through my second month- like I was alone, but I realize that I had ironically pushed everyone away due to how low I was, the second the third month of my ban came around I finally managed to climb out of my hole that i dug and i just came to feel significantly better. Happier, healthier- my health increased as my sleep schedule mended itself and I managed to pay attention to friends. I looked back on it and came to the realizations I subtly mentioned above, like recognizing why the leaked evidence was bannable and why I should have been pre-emptively, at the minimum, banned. I understand the views of the administration now that I am able to reflect clearly on the whole history that unfolded, I even attempted to apologize to Alex for the hatred I spewed towards him when I found myself feeling happier but i’m unsure if he managed to receive the messages. I can’t quite access the whole ordeal from when it happened yet i’ve not protested or complained regarding my ban since it occurred, I received one courtesy call, i simply accepted the ban and asked for the appeal email for when a specific minimum of months had passed and had requested the posts regarding myself cease, to which they did to my knowledge. During this courtesy call I was informed that I was in dire need of this break by the caller from the administration team and that this would positively impact me, and I do believe now that i was in need of a break and i believe with the recovery of my mental health i can return positively to the community without further issue.


But instead i just approached the situation in the end as it was. An issue(s) that were related to toxicity and harassment. For my standing through the several months prior to my ban, I had approached a conflict with haelun’or that was intended to be a player vs player scenario but instead it swiftly developed (in my eyes) into myself against the administration. I was very against the admin team, I thought every little thing was out to get me, to stop me or just to effect my goals and so in turn I grew very distrustful and spiteful of you all as a team. I was extremely stressed, not only from leading from the civil war and planning that was involved and i’m unsure if administration were able to decipher that such was the case. Yet I also was not understanding of the administration’s own views on the scenarios and situations that were unfolding and I believe that such only furthered myself (at the time) into the hole I was freaking out in. At one point i even dm’d alex in a group chat and told him that I believed he hated me when he told me i (as an NL) had a direct hotline to him, i believed he hated my absolute guts and so i had no communication or sight as to what was going on.


Simply put you as the admins were trying to protect the haelun’or community from what evidently was considered a hostile takeover from an outside group- but during such a time I was also trying to protect, build and maintain the community that had been creating by myself. I was protective with the aforementioned mindset and I believe all the things placed on me began from here. When I was actually NL for the several month period I was incredibly paranoid and anxious, I was burnt out from the build I had rushed and my mental state was fractured beyond belief to the point that my friends were encouraging me to quit the server but I strongly believed that I had nothing if not leading. I understand with the evidence leaked from the moderation channel as to why I would be banned for toxicity and harassment, but I do sincerely wish to make this appeal an explanation as to my headspace at the time and with the aforementioned I hope you can understand. That string of messages quite literally included a moodswing of messages where I went from seeking to ally the vale with oren to hating on the vale for making demands and then proceeding to grow toxic.


I would like to conclude by stating I don’t really have a desire to be a nation leader again, nor do I really want to step forward into the server politics that occur. I just want to return to roleplay, provide roleplay and finish the roleplay I was doing during my tenure as NL with certain communities I had connected with.

 

Are there aspects of the ban you agree and/or disagree with?

 

I primarily disagree with the forum posting post-ban that occured, though I believe it was just simply due to it looking like a back and forth and not something professional

 

What motivates you to return to LOTC?

 

I would like to be unbanned primarily to return to the roleplay I was apart of and the groups I had grown to know. I have a pretty strong desire to provide a narrative and good interactions to the people I was roleplaying with and that's something I would do still, with or without being Nl, because I think i've tasted NLship and don't really want to go back now, as much as I was disliked by half the server, the other half I was pretty involved in, in some way, like I was pushing xionists to actually try and kill azdromoth, I was ushering in a better voidal magical standing and roleplay for the mages, I was involved with the spooks and seers n so on and none of that came from "being NL" it just came from me wanting to give good rp and them liking it, I suppose.

If you will get back in any form of leadership ooc and IC, I will drop kick you. Nevertheless, please, unban this peep. 6 months were a overkill, don't need to prolong it further- there was too much good rp that was going on; It wasn't all ooc, I'm not someone who likes to get involved too much ooc and I'm always there to tell twi to step back- it's really a shame and i'd rather it not to end. 1+

 

Edit: I could give examples If needed but If twi truly did something bad, then she should've been permabanned. I do think whatever she needed was outstreched. All she needs is to stay away from politics, that's what ruins her.

Unironically though, as the NL of Celia'nor I can attest to how her mindset has drastically changed pre versus post ban. She separated herself almost entirely from LOTC during that period, only joining the Celia'nor discord to post a meme or two before leaving after. Her RP was some of the most immersive I have been apart of, to the point of me being an avid pro-Haelun'or supporter during that conflict to helping create Celia'nor along with her simply because I enjoyed the group that she made and the RP that was going on. She just wants to come back to RP with her friends and to create RP, just as she's done since the start of the server when we were around similar magic groups. I do hope the admins unban her as she's served quite a long sentence for her behavior and doesn't have a desire to be involved in politics anymore.

It will be hard for people to come to a genuine conclusion about the issue if we are left without the reasons that led up to the ban & the information surrounding it.

With that being said, I don't think you can ever really publicize the information by design of the system -- people who submit the report need to remain anonymous so as not to be witch hunted after the fact. It's nice you are opening up the community to offer some discussion, but please keep in mind that most of these opinions are going to be without the whole truth. I don't know if the current report system really adheres itself to this sort of thing.

I didn't know twi before their ban, but, I can wholeheartedly say that with the talks I've had with them and interactions that they're honestly a really nice person. I think this is a well-made appeal, I hope to see them back in the community for real. +1

Honestly, I miss RPing with Twi, though I doubt we'll roleplay in the future. Yeah, there was probably some toxicity, but we've seen worse people get unbanned and show notable improvements. These months long bans are ridiculous and don't actually serve the purpose they're meant to.

 

Twi has done her best to cut ties, as she said, distancing herself from the server. Holding a position of power is stressful and some people react poorly to it. Give her a NL blacklist and let her come back. She's terrible at [insert various shooter game here] and needs a proper outlet.

Not exactly sure why this person was banned in the first place. Every person I've talked to about this player has given nothing but a glowing review about them. 

 

And even then, if they really were a demon in the past, it seems they wish to flip that script. People are like diamonds. They change with enough pressure and time. If they want demonstrate their change, then let them prove it.

It seems to me that rather than having a public ban appeal posted where of course friends and supporters flock to say how they either did nothing wrong, or definitely learned a lesson and should come back, you'd be better off talking to the people wronged in the first place. The people who were being protected by the banning of the player. Those are the people who you should be listening to, not the band of friends or completely unrelated players who either know half truths or no truths. The only opinions that matter in a case where people have been attacked, such as harassment bans, are the ones who were harassed. If they feel safe with the player's return then fine, give them a chance. If they don't you should listen to that when considering a ban appeal. 

There's been a multitude of posts about player and community safety. So talk to the players who were made unsafe by another. People who don't understand the full picture will never be able to give true, honest opinions on the matter. And those wronged won't feel safe voicing concerns on a public forum. Hence the reason for anonymity. There really is no point to this.

This is an admin ban, a CGV ban. Talk to the members of the community who were harmed. This seems very strange and rather pointless. 

(As a member of this community and a staff member, my concern, as yours should be Admins, lies with the victims. Not the crowd of friends. We are meant to be creating a safer environment. And creating a public post where an anonymous victim will feel in no way safe voicing their true thoughts is not conducive to that.)

The bank called. It's time for my 2 cents here. After doing more digging into the situation, I finally have enough information to make an educated opinion on how I think this should be handled, or at least how I would handle it were I apart of the decision.

 

When I was a NL at the time of Twi's ban, almost every nation on the map was being led OOCly or from the shadows. The fact that she got banned for OOC plotting, when so many nations on the server talk about policy and national response to roleplay in an OOC manner, makes me second guess even my own actions and how I could've done more roleplay like responses and meetings instead of sitting in discord chats discussing next moves. I believe that Twi has changed for the better and has had a change in character, thus why I am supporting her ban appeal. 

 

I'm aware my opinion is invalid and falls on deaf ears because of bias. I was a Ferryfan, a NL who worked closely with Twi, and overall apart of the plan for the Haelunor Coup that set the stage for Celianor to come about. My personal belief is that the communities have stabilized, there is no open toxicity towards any nation now, and that the past can be left in the past. After all, it's mineman roleplay where everyone wants to have fun.

 

At the end of the day, I know many reasons behind moves, some aren't that hard to decipher. But I am simply one person, I don't have the full story or the crucial details of this ban or the actions of administration on certain issues. I'm just a guy stating his opinion on what is a popular topic that has everyone stirred up to be high in the forums list. I wish to see Twi unbanned, not for the reason most do out of loyalty, but for the reason of I think Twi has a lot to offer to the server that has yet to come.
