A Letter to Magister Yera

Recommended Posts

Dear Magister Yera,

This letter comes to you from Captain Vicnan Hawkins of The Last Port Of Cormath. I was recently in your city seeking your assistance regarding the effects of a magic spell; this is beside the point. While there, I was ordered into a Darkspawn test; while I had no problem with this and complied, I was then ordered into a search. During this time, they deemed a dagger, which I bought while visiting Norland from a man named Volkov of The Murkwater Company, to be dangerous and unlawful. Volkov promised me that this dagger would help me in the upcoming siege against the Harrowers, so I bought it for 600 mina, which is not cheap, mind you.

When I told them that the dagger was my property and that I would not be giving it up, they drew their weapons and threatened me. The members present seemed to be grunt soldiers however I did have the displeasure of having to deal with Cardinal Villorik primarily. To add to this, I let them know that I have an active treaty with you, ensuring no citizens of Cormath would be harmed while in Kaethul and vice versa; they practically scoffed at this statement. I then relinquished the dagger, as I feared they would jump to conclusions as the Canonists do and execute me there in the tavern. If you need further proof, ask Ar-Malna; they were present during the entire encounter.

As a city leader, I understand the need to protect your citizens, and I will continue to respect and abide by the treaty we signed, but I hope that this issue of these guards being overly violent can be fixed in the future.

Best Wishes,

"It sounds as if this Kaethul is too dangerous to visit as long as these canonists are allowed to assualt vistors, even ones that are afforded promised protections." Vykk says, changing his travel plans.

"Took his dagger, hm?"

Villorik of Westerwald sighed to himself as he beheld the frail form of a chicken, weakly lying on the ground, as the necrotic wound spread across it's feathered body. He glanced down at the dagger in question, slick with the chicken's blood from testing.

Next time, the fool would lose more than his dagger.

The Demonslayer overhears Vykk outside their house as a living doll brings them a transcript. Io sets down their prepared potions and aurum for the same upcoming siege on darkspawn that is mentioned with a sigh and prepares their finest dress to investigate the safety of Kaethul and whether a travel advisory is necessary. Io additionally thinks back to being told just recently by a Canonist that Villorik had murdered a citizen of Kaethul, adding this to an ever-growing list of things to check up on. "I am going to Kaethul." They say to the local bards just in case they disappear suddenly.

Anatoliy stands in the background of the events described, being escorted by a Haeseni retinue out of the city. He never returned.

Dainn, however, checks his list again. "Ari.. Mara.. Xally.. Ah feck, ah need so maneh more signatures ta ge' this shrine!" A soft white breeze of frosted mist swoops around his light blessed body, twinkling in the pure snow white illumination of his form. "Aye, aye.. Don' worreh Eraan. We both know ye' love is needed nah, more than ever."

The Sword of Purity rises to his bare feet, casting a loving gaze across the landscape. White light keeps radiating from his body as that twinkling mist swoops around him again.

"Kae'hul will be a place o' love an' passion. Ah swear et."

"Those damned Canonists still haven't sent me that list."

Cerrick of Khamees lamented, reading the missive. He thought to himself about how two-faced the Church was being in the moment.

Ar-Malna sat down, looking at the paper with a sigh. She had given all her money to try and keep conflict from arising. But hey, she still has tavern customers. She gets up, going back to cooking up some goods for the bar.

"Sometimes things happen, I'm just glad I did ne have to clean up blood."

"The man in question was in possession of a necrotic bone dagger, the same type of dagger previously used to murder the High Pontiff. The man whines because the Church relieved him of a dagger he should never have had in his possession, he was lucky he was offered so many chances to hand it over and not cut down. Norland ought be investigating the merchant, residing in their city, who sells these types of Shadowspawn weaponry, but they care more about being a victim then rooting out the evil." remarked Father Rhys.
