Policy Update on Sexually Explicit Content

Everyone,

 

We’re adding a new section to our Player Conduct Policy. Here it is.

 

It is our duty to protect young folk from malicious behavior on this server. In parallel, we recognize that adult content is not inherently harmful. Adults engaging with mature content in their own spaces is a natural facet of life and we aren’t looking to police what you do in your spare time.

 

With that said, underage members must not be guided/coerced into this content. We find that advertising or otherwise distributing sexually-explicit content in the LotC space falls dangerously close to that territory, and that neither we nor our community are comfortable with this activity.

 

If your LotC-related space has a sexually-explicit section gated behind thin barriers like “roles”—please take this opportunity now to eliminate these areas. Then, please do your part—ensure minors don’t find their way into sexually-explicit servers.

With the publicity of a certain Discord, this was bound to be a serious discussion, and although we’re strengthening our stance on distributing this kind of content, we also do not condone the harassment that members of our community have been receiving simply for participating in this Discord. Let me be clear, as per our Player Conduct Policy, harassment of any members of our community will not be tolerated.

 

I also want to share that we are still investigating the circumstances around that particular server. We have permanently banned two members for content they shared there, and the organizer has received a two month ban by the Moderation team for failing to adhere to our existing policy on LOTC-affiliated Discords.

 

Please DM me if you wish to discuss any concerns related to that particular server, or harassment of members of our community.

 

Edit 3/21: 

We have concluded our investigation, and aside from the two members already permabanned and the temporary ban for the server's organizer, there will be no further bans related to the Discord server in question (unless new evidence arises).

 

I also want to clarify that the content the two members were permabanned for was one post from each where the age of the characters depicted was not clear. These were sent in a chat of many people and many messages, throughout nearly a year of logs, and was all that was found. I personally do not see this as a reflection of anyone else in that chat, and think it is unfair to judge them for simply being in there or sharing other content, it's hard to say if they saw those posts, and unless you were explicitly looking for something wrong, one may have just scrolled past them and not thought much of them.

 

I also want to note that the organizer's ban reason is for not having the required automod settings enabled as outlined in this post, they did not do anything that we saw being in violation of our Safety Policy or Player Conduct Policy (notwithstanding the addition that @Telanir outlines above, which we decided not to apply retroactively in this case).

Thanks for making the guidelines stricter- hopefully this will cut down on the chances of bad things happening going forth that could've stemmed from this issue.

On that note, will moderation or administration soon define what exactly 'LotC' affiliation/affiliated spaces are? The rule appears to rely upon this crux, yet it is either poorly defined or not at all meaningfully said. This is quite the problem regarding spaces that are way outside of the LotC medium. Obviously, without question, this ban was quite warranted, considering that the Discord server itself was advertised as a part of LotC in some form.

wait but from what i know that server was not related to LOTC aside the characters, which in my opinion should not matter as if it is not your character it is not your business, if it was not pushed as an LOTC server this seems alittle out of proportion

the server was not lotc related despite all the lotc relations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are there any plans to ban, or at least put restrictions, on romance roleplay? A lot of people joke about doing it, but under no circumstances should an adult be roleplaying flirtatious things with a minor. Its a gateway to grooming, feelings being caught by the minors who know no better, and a gross creepy spiral.
