  1. Hail friends of the Dominion As many of you have seen the Cloud Temple has gotten a fair bit of a facelift thanks to the wonders of plastic surgery The World Development team. After a few months of work on both the plugin and build side we’re pleased to introduce a friendlier layout to new players and old players alike with new features for all to enjoy. See attached screenshot for how it looks now if you have somehow not managed to see it in the time it takes me to write this post (aka half an eternity) There are many new facilities here for players to enjoy as well as a streamlined process for new players to get right into the world without getting too lost at the new temple A Huntsmaster who will guide you to finding and fighting powerful spawning enemies throughout the world A bounty board that will soon have many different posted bounties to collect A return of the AuctionHouse, located in the tavern Etcetera However as fun as most of these are (and they really are, the mobs can be really fun if you can get past the dying part. But hey, Dark Souls is popular) this post has another purpose, something of a duality. Lately the great non-secret has been that we’ve been looking a lot at growing the playerbase and the server. This is something fairly important to us and through making applications easy and making not voting hard we’ve managed to pull in 829 new players this year alone. This would not be possible without our outstanding Application Team and the works of @Sporadic who continues to be a gem. New applications however are only just one aspect of server growth, with retention being a significant factor at play here as well. Out of 829 new players that we’ve accepted only 300 (Oddly enough this was the exact number) of them played 10 hours in their first month. This could be as a result of playing after the start of the next month but such cases are ultimately rather rare, but the number is still pretty good all things considered. However, out of those 300 only about 74 played during their second month meaning we lost around 226 players who did not want to continue playing after playing the server for a bit. Smash those two numbers together and out comes out retention rate of players who actually tried the server; 24.7%. While this rate isn’t specifically bad it can definitely be higher and considering that our server is intended to be played for the long term (7 years and running) the more the merrier, so we’re seeking to raise that number. For that purpose we aim to introduce several methods to improve the ways which all the new players get involved with the server and the community, one of which being Cloud Temple (hence the post). One of the things we noted when we were doing data checking was that a lot of players seemed to log out on the roads themselves around the cloud temple. While we don’t have data that explicitly says this it seems pretty reasonable to suspect that the reason is that they don’t know where to go. Some of the plugins we’ve added lately have helped with this void a bit - creating Caravans through llamas that new players can find and ask questions potentially or at least follow for a bit to know the server is active, but it alone won’t be enough to get a new player to a space that they’ll want to return to the server. While we talked about a number of ways to potentially improve this such as fast travels or improved soulstones we eventually always hit a stall - if a new player gets lost or finds themselves in an empty city for the first few hours of gameplay chances are we’ll never see them again. It is for this purpose that we believe the most effective form of assistance is a personal, intimate assistance that only our community can provide - and it is this role that the Wilven Monks will fulfill. We understand however that this will be a controversial change and one that may not be so rapidly accepted. For this purpose however our goal is simple - we’re running a trial phase on the Monk project. As we now have a better way to physically measure retention we can map noticeable improvements over time - such as improvements made by a joint staff/player monk organization. As such the goal is fairly simple - give this project three months to take off on its feet to see how retention improves. If it doesn’t then it’ll be sent off to the farm post-haste. Some of the concerns around the previous order of monks will likely be a concern around this point. The order will not have any magic to start out, instead focusing it’s daily on assisting new players to get to nations and groups ready to accept them. This will be something of a joint project between these nations and the monks, aiming to try to coordinate new player “drop offs” where players are brought to the gates and passed off to a steward or some such. This should help decently with retention and give every nation and group a good chance to prove their ability to retain players. That’s all for now, keep an eye out for additional posts on the monks if you’re interested in joining and know that you’ll be expected to be nice, and really who wants to do that?

  5. Greetings LotC! You've probably noticed the forums aren't quite themselves today and I'm here to explain to you why. We've recently updated to the newest version of our forum software and our old "Theme", or the code behind the look of the website, is now incapable of running. This is rather unfortunate of course but it means two things; Due to the lack of a custom theme we've employed a new, temporary theme (what you're seeing on this post if you're looking at it on May 2nd or so) in order to at least prevent the eyeburn from the default white We're going to be commissioning a new, up to date custom website design! So with these two things out of the way now is the time that we're here to ask you - how do you want the website to look? What are your thoughts on the matter? The polls above are just to help us determine a general direction. Let us know what you like and don't like!
  6. Kulin'oem sat on his balcony, overlooking the progress he had made on the city in such a short time. In his left hand a pink-colored drink was half full, the condensation dripping occasionally down to the balcony ground from the cold nature of the drink against the humid Atlassian air. The ice would clink against the glass as the fair, blonde elf considered the sunset before him - the pink hue filling the sky. A slow movement and he would take a sip of the drink grasped in his hand, considering the letter he held in his other. He was troubled but with one leg crossed in a relaxed pose the Mali'aheral would set the drink aside and begin to write as a cool ocean breeze filled his lungs. The eighteenth of the Maheralan began his address to all Mali'aheral. 15th of The Amber Cold, 1661 Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya. It is the Phrase by which Thill'onn are to live by. It is the creed by which a Mali'aheral is Mali'thill or Mali'ata. It is the bedrock of our Silver Enclave of Haelun'or, the principles that we govern by. The phrase is the essence of what it means to be a Mali'aheral and yet - what does this Ah'sanan truly mean? The Talonnii has seen fit to elect me, this fair day, as Maheral. It is a sad day and a happy day - As Cenwall Maeyr'onn has not been seen in at least two years I must announce myself - a rather sad affairs for the office of the Maheral. However there is joy to be had in the dawning of a new day in the Silver Enclave for it is bright and full of much wonder. We stand in a unique moment in Mali'aheral history and one that will define our people for a while to come. It is in this moment that the grievances of old and present can be shed, the dawning of a new Era is potentially upon the Mali'thill. With the Silver Enclave in shambles and the pieces needing to be picked up it is more important than ever for the Mali'thill to unite as one - for the Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya, for our Malii. The journey that I seek to take as Maheral will not be an easy one. I have steeled myself for this fate and believe deeply that the course I now take is Larihei's will. As I have just penned - the Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya is woefully undefined. The separation of Mali'thill and Mali'ata is up to the Maheral but even Maherals can falter and fail. Even with our natural affinity for logic and documentation the writings on the Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya are frustratingly incomplete and thus I shall dedicate my tenure in this position to my Thill'sanan, or my writings on the topic of Purity. This shall be my great burden - the defining of the Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya. Many will challenge my views and this is something I am readily accepting of and even prepared for, however I challenge all Maheral'anto and Maheral'ento who still hold true to the Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya to follow in my footsteps to create their own Thill'sanan and help create the Taliynathill'sanan, what I hope will be the great work of the Maheralan to guide our Malii in their future paths and unite us in our own futures. I understand fully that my place as Maheral shall be questioned, as many still question whether any who have followed after Dio deserve such a title. I hope in time to earn the trust of all Mali'thill - but until that day comes I shall work as hard as any Maheral before me to deserve this great honor. Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya ay'Larihei - Maheral Kulin'oem Vallei'tir

  9. After a long 3 week battle with the mysterious connection issues preventing some players from logging we've finally managed to seemingly isolate the issue with the help of @Skylez1 and a little bit of stupidity. Hopefully people who suffered from this will now find their ability to log in restored!

  10. Can confirm, no fools, this is real
  11. Since we put a large focus on voting from the start of February we've had 311 new players accepted, roughly 180 in February and so far about 130 this month as well (as far as the data shows of several days ago). This is significantly a rather significant leap that looks to potentially be increasing, indicating that server listings are actually proving to be rather efficient
  12. The issue has been resolved and we're back up and running!

  13. We're aware of the sudden downtime and are working to try to resolve the issue as soon as we can. We are uncertain when this problem will be resolved.

  16. Raid Rules The raid rules follow the community guidelines. An attack on a settlement by three or more players is known as a raid. If all parties agree (defenders and attackers) then they may establish their own rules for a raid and teleportation use. Internal conflicts within a settlement are not classified as raids but what defines this will be determined by a Game Moderator should issues arise. Before beginning a raid you must use /modreq to inform the moderation team of the Raid beginning. All that’s required is the modreq to be filed - after it has been created you can proceed with the Raid with or without moderator supervision. An example looks like this: “/modreq I am raiding Town A with 8 players and I, John Doe, will be leading the raid.” Raiding Killing, robbing, or causing chaos. A maximum of 10 players may participate on the attacking side in such a raid. The raiding party must begin fighting within 30 minutes of arriving. A raid may last up to 1 hour, then you must leave. Lawless Raiding may have a maximum of 20 players on Nations if 24 hour notice is given in advance by using /modreq to place down a sign. The sign will indicate a 1 hour possible range for this to occur (Example: 6PM - 7PM). All raid times will be set in EST as standard. Normal raid rules apply and cooldowns are still enforced. Rescue Raiding A Rescue Raid is a raid to free a high-ranking official of a nation/settlement captured by another group (PROs, ROs, and officials on the settlement's forum page). Raiders may bring 20 players to attend the rescue where they may use TNT and ladders if necessary. Once they arrive at the settlement the raiding party has one hour to rescue the captured official. A moderator must be present for a rescue raid. Raid must present evidence to a Moderator prior to the raid starting (/modreq) — this information must be: how they know the official is captured, how they know where they are held, and who the raid leader of the party is. Proof must be given through screenshots or clear evidence to the moderator. Sufficient in-character knowledge of the official's whereabouts is required. Mercenaries and allies are allowed with sufficient roleplay. You must present proof of payment to mercenaries (shown to a Moderator) conducted prior to the raid; allies are allowed so long as the alliance is documented on the forums prior to the raid. Participants of a rescue raid must live in an area controlled by the settlement of the captured official. Proof must be provided prior to the rescue raid starting. This can be screenshots of region information and in-character rallying for the raid. Mechanics-combat must only follow after sufficient roleplay. In other words, attempt to negotiate, intimidate, bargain—and only if all else fails may combat begin. Settlements on cooldown can still be rescue raided once accepted by a moderator. Defenders may not be captured by attackers during a rescue raid. Rescue raids last maximum of 1 hour. if the captured person is executed and the rescue raiders arrive, the rescue raiders are under normal raid limitations (e.g. time constraint and all that). After rp, if the rescue raid continues then it becomes a standard raid, if settlement is on cooldown, attackers must leave. (It will still be eligible for rescue raiding if they arrive and the player is killed while they are there, or if they arrive shortly after the player is killed without knowledge of their death, within five minutes Raid Cooldowns You may not attack a settlement for 4 days following a raid. Defenders must make a /modreq within two hours of the raid finishing to have a sign placed indicating when a raid has occurred. Failure to do so will result in a sign not being placed. Unprotected Settlement Raiding Ladders may be placed on Unprotected Settlements with appropriate Role-play and Moderator supervision. Regular raid rules apply to Unprotected Settlements. General Rules Rallying members of a settlement to log in to defend said settlement from a raid on Skype, Discord, and any other medium is permitted once an alarming emote has been done in-game with sufficient roleplay, such as ringing a bell, lighting a beacon, etc. Sufficient roleplay must consist of a minimum of three emotes. Coordination must remain largely in-game, and Defenders must login from within the city limits. In all other instances, you may not use Skype, Discord, nor any other medium, to rally people to defend your settlement from an attack. Placing or breaking blocks during a raid is prohibited. During a raid cooldown, you may not camp the edge of a territory or block entry to it (AKA “raid-baiting”). If a nation capital is on raid cooldown, then banditing on main roads in the nation tile, leading to the nation, is considered raid-baiting and is not allowed. If the nation is not on cooldown, you may camp for 1 hour at most per day without raiding. This includes camping roads leading up to City Gates. ] The raiding party may initiate 3 attempts of lockpicking/breaking in/thievery, with a maximum of three rolls per attempt. Once someone has joined the conflict of a raid they must stay within the conflict in Roleplay until its conclusion regardless of side. If a raiding party is away from the settlement that they are raiding for more than 10 minutes without engaging in combat, the raid would be over. Raiding-Ladders may be used in any territory. Each raider/s may carry up to 6 raiding-ladders each. (18 ladders max). Before the raid-ladders are placed down, the raider/s must emote placing them and roll(Sensible ladder placement only). For Nation Tiles/Regions, the ladders will be given to the overseeing GM in order to get placed down. Raiding-ladders can be acquired from the Cloud Temple War Camp. To successfully place the ladders upon the walls, you need to roll 7+. Rolling 6 or less results in the ladders being destroyed. (The roll affects the whole ladder column, not every ladder placed). In order for a player to spectate a raid (/status recording), the player must be at the general area of the raid and already statused before the PvP begins. While with status recording, the player may not try to interfere with the PvP at all. (Let it be reviving/blocking arrows/place blocks or supply items). If you die during a raid, you may not return the the settlement while the raid is occurring. You must wait for the raid to be over in order to return.

This is a little unfair because the Australian players will see the raid rules being posted first and they will be allowed to raid before other players.
