Like I said in the post a light villain app filters out people who don’t want to do the bare minimum of effort (create a character) to roleplay as a villain. It encourages people to actually give a damn about the character they’re playing and it gives the staff an opportunity to use discretion on known shitters. the idea is it’s based on trust, a new player who demonstrates effort gets accepted, someone who has been blacklisted/banned for bad roleplay gets more scrutiny if we’re really going to go all in on removing unnecessary paperwork the server application that tests basic english competency and requires you to write a paragraph should be phased out tbh. we’d pull much bigger average player numbers if new ppl landed in a noob quarantine zone and the AT just decided who gets acceptedd there are less paperworky solutions to the villain roleplay problem (persona pvp cooldowns on death,) too it’s just severely unlikely they’ll ever get implemented

I think on the contrary, some restrictions on villain roleplay would give players the freedom to play something other than a typical sword&sorcery rpg character. Your choices now involve either hiding in an enclave somewhere and being antisocial, or being geared up constantly to fight someone else. Our server right now viciously stifles even simple shopkeep and slice of life rp while encouraging people to play obnoxious protagonists. A light villain application (like say, you write a short bio for your character, it gets automatically accepted so long as it follows the rules. keeps players from creating alt characters to get around guards) would go a long way in filtering out people with no interest in roleplaying, while allowing people to develop their characters and get feedback. I don’t really see the downsides.

I think everyone should be IC 100% of the time. Even if you’re shooting the **** with your friends and you’ve alt-tabbed out of the game, you should at least try to halfass a response if someone comes up to you. But really, you should be interacting with other people. If someone passes you by, shout “hail,” or whatever. LoTC is a social experience and it benefits everyone when you try to break the ice. If you’re sat somewhere AFK or headlessly running around, you’re not roleplaying. The server doesn’t work when people don’t roleplay. The staff should also seriously consider bringing back some sort of requirements for villain roleplay. You should demonstrate you’re willing to put in some bare minimum of effort before you’re allowed to go killing other people’s characters

    Counting of Elves (Results!)

Interesting how Fenn is now the plurality of elf players – a testament to the power of perseverance, I guess. I still remember when they got genocided in the Fringe, and the no-show warclaims in Vailor. do you guys have a discord? hmu i’m braindead, but can i still join

    To the Mali'aheral of Aegrothond

“Looks like it’s time to trap them in the gates again...” Csaba hums, a grin spreading across his mottled grey face.
  11. Players only spread out when everyone has land and there is more land overall. This could easily be fought by forcing players to take plots in a small ring around CT, which is... incidentally, what we’re doing right now. It really goes to show you how strong that illusion was, then. I’d greatly prefer Athera’s system (sans Nexus-regions plugin) than what we have right now, where Nations get exclusive access to land and the admins are now threatening us with the same charter system that killed Vailor.
  12. Let’s examine this seriously for a moment, ignoring the fact that there will obviously be a chance to get some land sometime in the future. I should damn well hope that everyone who makes 6% “activity” (playercount) gets land next map. But there are obviously nations below that threshold that deserve land. That’s my argument, and I hope that if you’re talking to me as a player, you’ll understand me here. If there has been nobody roleplaying in a nation for months, chances are they aren’t online right now asking for land in 7.0. But what if, by some strange coincidence, they do? Does giving an inactive group land necessarily take anything from anyone else? No. What are the risks, here? Some players who left the server coming back? A new group having the potential to rise in popularity? I can see these are things that current nation leaders might not like, but tough ****. If you can’t keep your own nation active and can’t stem the tide of players leaving for greener pastures, then what’s the point of this entire competition? Nothing bad would happen if we gave everyone (and I mean everyone) land next map, so long as most of the plots were close enough to CT. This is what happened during Athera, when LoTC was easily twice as active as we are now. The only people who don’t want other players to receive land are players who are already getting land. And they want traffic in their cities for free. We’re talking in ‘deserves’ and ‘should gets’ here, but do any of the active settlements right now deserve land? Sutica, Haense, Aegothrond, none of these settlements would even exist if the same 6% activity requirement was applied to the Axios->Atlas map transition. It’s ridiculous to say they ‘deserve’ land when they got it no questions asked at the beginning of this map. Nobody ever threatened to delete their charters or take their nation status, even when the first two of these nations had extended periods of zero activity. Lastly, it isn’t “you can’t say with 100% certainty.” You can say with 100% certainty that one of the active nations from the land auction is going to be dead on arrival to 7.0. We’ve observed this every single map change. Please don’t mince my words; I guarantee you, whatever nations are the most popular now, entirely different ones are going to be active in 7.0. Hence why it’s positively silly we’re using a 6% activity check right now to determine who’s going to be active months from now.

    Charter System [Your View]

Charters should only be available in a certain block radius around spawn, no further than nation capitals. Unrestricted charters will turn the map into Vailor 2 also this is good also delete the ******* cloud temple ring
