    The problem with the Empire

ngl I have hard nostalgia for the “warring kingdoms” era in Anthos. It produced a lot less procedural, more interesting roleplay. There’s a huge problem on LoTC with nation leaders being able to OOCly enforce their roleplay edicts. You can put a sign outside of someone’s region and get a global moderator to kick them out of their homes if you’re a nation leader. You can (sometimes literally) move mountains based solely on your self-justifying in-character title. It’s sort of alarming how much this stagnates role-play. For one, it removes the onus on a king to placate his subjects. There is no organic courtly roleplay on the LoTC, plots and intrigues are absent, royal marriages serving no purpose other than to procure cybering partners. As far as I know, there are no crowns with magical powers that let the leader of a nation alter reality to his will. So OOC privileges players get for just having an IC title should be outright removed. Evictions should require military force.

    NATIONS SHOULD ACT LIKE NATIONS

there should be a “city state” status that goes along with nation status, for active RP hubs that can’t necessarily be called nations. city states can get a region but have to remain isolationist, i.e. can’t make allies or participate in foreign wars. fenn, sutica, and the druids should receive this status

Land Allocation (Freebuild vs Charter) [Your View]

I’m not going to argue with a bunch of people who RP exclusively in ivory towers about how freebuild is actually not why this map is flawed. Dalek’s already done that. Instead, here’s a proposal on how freebuild could help us avoid Atlas’s flaws. I hope someone will read it. Firstly, no one should receive land just by the merit of having land/players at the end of this map. The hype always dies. We’ve done this for the past two maps, and for each one there ended up being three nations that were completely dead by the end of the first month. This map is a great example of that. People built actual functioning RP hubs like Belvitz while the major nations LC’d in gigantic cities in the middle of ******* nowhere. I honestly don’t know why they did this (looking at you, Sutica/Santegia/Haense,) but it split RP between the furthest vertices of the island and made it impossible to find other people and travel between hubs. It also gimped this map’s innate potential for dynamic RP. I already rather like the idea of a circle of freebuild surrounding the cloud temple/the coasts, but excluding isolated, faraway regions that decentralize RP. Rather than have an asinine charter system that requires a bunch of administrative work and hands out land based on who can get the most fake character signatures, or a weird activity monitoring spreadsheet system, make the area around the cloud temple a scramble for land. Have a brief period of anarchy where people build their settlements, put up their walls, plant their crops or rally their armies. The most keen-eyed settlers will build their outposts strategically on rivers and highways and ports near the Cloud Temple, and will be rewarded with an influx of activity and commerce. Of course, they will be a natural target for the ambitions of nation leaders and local warlords, and will either swear fealty, pay tribute, or garrison their settlements and fight for liberty. After say, a month, when independent settlements have been razed, annexed, or vassalized, the GMs can give away region protections and LC to expand these settlements, which are already RP hubs, into cities. That way we don’t have a bunch of dead, lifeless nation capitals. That way every nation that takes the initiative will get a functioning RP hub and every nation will be active. That way, new players have an actual chance.

    Activity, The Lastest Plugin

why not just get rid of nations in 7.0 instead I can understand from a marketing perspective why it would be nice to siphon in as many players for the next map, but RP would be better and more dynamic if nobody got a region next map. Let the most active nation enforce their dominion through craft or military might, or whatever. That way you encourage nations to be active after the transition and don’t end up with a bunch of dead nation capitals.
  10. how do you feel about the quality of lotc roleplay? do you think it will ever return to where it was in, say, anthos?

  12. Mechanical PvP default and its consequences have been a disaster for the LoTCer race. Bring back RP default and mandatory "you must be in-character" rules. Honestly, I like that you're allowed to use mechanics to fight if you're not feeling a long drawn-out emote fight, but that's it. PvP is fun in large skirms and warclaims. Not particularly fun when it's just you versus a gang of people in discord with one another. If you want to do any villain roleplay tbh, you have to learn to at least put in the bare minimum and respect some1 else's wishes, whether they want to pvp or rp. There should be no excuse for "banditry" or whatever. It isn't welcome and most of the community hates it whether they're willing to admit it or not.

Do you want freebuild in 7.0?

Yes, conditional on whether you can burn freebuilds down in roleplay.

    7.0 Annoucement!

Looks like a fat map. Are you guys going to do anything to center RP around the obvious population center that is the inland sea and southern shores of the map, allowing for easy travel between hubs, and in RP, easy transportation of goods? I like the sound of the "ring" idea but it seems like it would work better if distance from the coastline was a factor as well as distance from CT. Overland travel is easily the part about Atlas I hate the most. Running over endless expanses of undeveloped or worse yet landscarred territory is extraordinarily unfun. It would be better for almost all nations if they were centered around the ocean, lakes, or rivers with none of them too far to the north. Damn good work on the map either way though.
