  1. GM Montly Update - March

no because I'm banned for six months for placing blocks during a raid, and even if I was eligible for GM I would still have to join your team and do a bunch of useless made-up work to prove that I'm worthy of whatever GM rank actually gets to express their opinions. during which time I would be open to being kicked out and completely discredited if I didn't do exactly what the GM team leadership told me to do. you throw out this utterly ludicrous "you should apply" deflection to literally everyone who criticizes you, but the truth is your team is completely bereft of creativity or energy and it sucks the life force out of the people that join. I don't have to be a GM to notice that your team accomplishes basically nothing on a daily basis and tries to pass off trivial gewgaw and google sheets pie charts as productivity. Meanwhile, when you're working against each other constantly to create this illusion of value you've become completely unable to engage with the community outside of three week late responses to resolved ban reports. You're so utterly alienated from 90% of the community that you can't actually resolve disputes without threatening to ban one side or the other. It's pathetic how much work you people claim to do for what amounts to zero return. If you just dropped the act and went back to roleplaying with your friends you'd probably actually accomplish more than you do now. No it isn't. It actually doesn't matter that the rules are "cemented smoothly." What matters is the people who enforce the rules aren't a faceless bureaucracy of people who don't actually engage with the community and spend the vast majority of desultory nonsense. If LoTC staff spent the countless hours it wasted rewording the same raid rules actually just playing the game it wouldn't take months to write up a set of rules. The problem is that you spend so much of your time answering modreqs and then documenting those modreqs on a spreadsheet that you've barely know this community and you've forgotten how to roleplay.

gotta love these utterly pointless statistics you're all keeping. it really helps that you've completed n number of reqs and are giving each other "points" when your team is understaffed, has zero retention, and can't resolve a single ******* dispute
  3. "This is unnecessary, and dangerous. All that is needed is to turn them away at our gate -- All that matters is they are not causing trouble in the city." A dark elf shakes his head, finding himself put off by the prospect of lashing random driders.
  4. ask the toxic Australian anything

how to be a good roleplayer??
  5. LotC Age Demographic! (Poll)

u realize 45 year olds grew up in the 80's right, not a huge stretch to say someone who was ~27 during the height of the dot-com bubble would know how to post on an internet forum
  6. fair and level-headed +1
  7. The Xarkly Element & Markev

I personally think it would be interesting for Markev to become an event/"antag" region but there should be more roleplay in doing so than just claiming region owner when everyone else left.
  8. Temporal Warclaim Solution

    plus1
  9. Dominion of Malin 'Rap'

this is snow elven controlled opposition
  10. The Day Silver Stood

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes." Csaba remarks.
  11. Magic in Combat - Ideas

at some point idea 1 was how you were supposed to rp magic and that should not have changed. edit: lotc honest to god needs an rp combat system with concrete rules if we're going to keep arguing like this. if what morgan's proposing on his google doc could snowball out into an actual set of rp combat rules that would be splendid

  14. (Open Discussion) Why OOC is ****

if you actually put your opinion on the forums you'll get some1 who just responds with "minecraft hugbox lol" ive learned from snelves that the only way to win at lotc discourse is to fling **** at ppl no matter how ridiculous it is, and be as reactionary as you possibly can
  15. (Open Discussion) Why OOC is ****

yes because there isn't much actual rp to stealing people's items, much less killing them in pvp to steal their items. The consequence of death should be death. Losing a suit of iron armor is a 50 mina setback. I don't know where this "legal types of rp" meme comes from because not only has bandit rp not always been "legal rp" it's barely even rp in the first place. lotc has had the best roleplay when there were strict limits on how much you could **** someone else over and actual consequences for senseless villain roleplay. I'm all in favor of removing fake progression (magic tiers, item hoarding, made-up titles, snowflake creatures) in exchange for actual storytelling and character progression. there is no winning and losing in roleplay, there's just whoever quits first. the person who wins a roleplay fight is the person who's least willing to lose. wars on lotc almost always end up in one playerbase moving and changing names, or players leaving the server. the actual fun part of lotc is conflict between characters, but conflict is only fun when both sides play fair. if you wanted to win a war right now, and you had enough friends willing to go with you, you could completely level any active playerbase on the server, harass their players out of the community, and claim their builds and items for yourself. this wouldn't really accomplish anything other than making your character more important and it would be harmful to the health of our community, but you can do it and many players have. My philosophy is that if you get rid of the reward for cheating players won't cheat, and right now LoTC gives you virtual money and a sense of pride and accomplishment for cheating. I could be wrong. If you kept your inventory every time you died in pvp, people would still pvp because pvp is fun. If you couldn't steal more than 10% from a chest, people would still roleplay heists because that's exciting. Resources are infinite and being the best swordsman or the most powerful king on a minecraft server that's going to be reset in a few months is meaningless.
