"Encouraging" people to join a group by forcing them to pay money or be incapable of playing the server is not a healthy or positive method of encouragement.

Not just for pixel protection, but by joining a group there will most likely be people who are willing to help new players with other matters and show them the ropes etc. 
You can still definitely play this server without being able to lock chests yourself.

Without being to lock chests yourself; yes, so long as you have someone else to lock chests for you. If you don't have that, this server is impossible to play. We have an issue with new player retention, and putting a necessary element of our server behind a $25 paywall certainly does not help.

Erm, people with magic can carry a sword and armor just like everyone else? For a long while now we've "rped" that a mage's sword/armor they carry is to represent their magical fighting abilities. 

I mean they can't use "fire" or whatever in pvp, just normal weapons. Which is originally why I thought the idea was good, it could make pvp easier for mages, who want to use their magic to fight instead. But lets stop, I don't like arguing :P

It would not make Pvp easier for mages. As I said, a plugin isn't going to make you better or worse at Pvp. The only thing a magic plugin does is add 'cool' factor because you can use actual spell particles instead of normal weapons to represent magic.

@Chaw I am as equally critical of any Oreners who do this as I am any Rebels, Dreadlanders, or bystanders who do this. As I said; if this is how you react to staff decisions, then you are corrupt and care more about winning OOCly then you do about legitimate roleplay.
