~The Final Triumph of Captain Jacquelyn Cenobia and Major Rylan Swint 1804~

The Major paused at the foot of the dais, a million thoughts racing through his head as he prepared for the difficult ceremony ahead. “I must stay strong for the soldiers.” he’d murmur to himself as he approached the lectern, holding a small, polished box in his hands. After a moment of silent prayer, Major Erik Othaman would look up as he viewed the assembled line of Imperial Soldiers. He felt his heart pounding in his chest before shaking his head and raising his voice.

“Comrades, it has been much too long since we last gathered for this ceremony. For many years, vy all have proven vy capabilities on the field and at home over and over again. Vy laurels have gone without honors and praise long enough.”

“Soldiers of the Imperial State Army. Look to vy left and vy right. These comrades who vy stand beside are unique in their own ways… however each one of vy have spoken the same oath that generations of soldiers have spoken before vy. Even after vy are gone and I have turned to dust, this oath shall bind us together.”

The assembled regiment of troopers looked to the sides towards their comrades before turning back to the Major.

“For some of vy, it has been many years since last vy were called upon to take the oath of service.” The Major would open up the polished box resting on the lectern as he removed multiple star-shaped medals, stepping down from the podium. “Consider this a continued reminder of that oath which we all share. The Red Stars of Service shall look fine upon vy uniform, comrades.” he’d grin as he went down the line of the deserving soldiers, giving each a firm shake of the hand before returning to the podium.

“Of course, loyalty is only one cornerstone of the true soldier. Resilience makes another.” The Major would rest his hands on the box as he looked down the line “Some take their role of safe-guarding the Imperium in a more literal sense. They choose to utilize their very own flesh and blood to stop those who choose to ravage our home; a small price to pay in comparison to the greater loss of life. Those who have made this selfless decision are the exalted heroes of this Empire. For this, we shall praise and exalt them.”

He’d once more open the box and retrieve an array of heart-shaped medals with small purple ribbons “The Purple Heart shall serve as a reminder of vy choice and the continuation of that vital decision.” Once again, he would step from the dais and pinned the medals on the soldiers.

“The hellfire of battle shall remain a constant in the life of a soldier. For some assembled here, vy have nie even seen a small skirmish. For others, vy have made the choice to dive back into the fray. Siege after siege, battle after battle; vy have shown unwavering resolve for the Empire and her people.” A significantly smaller number of Bronze medals would be retrieved from the box as the Major smiled to the soldiers “For this, we award vy with the Bronze War Eagle.”

As he pinned the medals on the soldiers, he felt his heart pound harder as he approached the end of the ceremony. There was still one last medal. One last honor that he prayed he would never have to give. However, after recent events, he could no longer avoid it. Those two soldiers who were present in their marbled beds would be honored properly.

“For Major Rylan Swint and Captain Jacquelyn Cenobia… they paid a price even higher than any we can imagine in our short lives. Instead of letting the enemies of our Empire run over us and save their own lives, they sacrificed everything they had in their positions to throw them back, including their own mortality.” He’d cough as he felt his emotions catch in his throat. “They were our comrades, our friends, our family. For their selfless sacrifice and their extended service to the Imperial State Army, we shall grant them the Honor of the Fallen and a final resting place in the Bastion Crypt.” The Major turned to the coffins as he brought with him two large medallions, laying them atop each coffin as he stepped back.

Two cannons would erupt from the battlements in a final salute to the fallen soldiers. “FIRST REGIMENT! RIGHT FACE!” The Major would shout to the soldiers, hiding his emotions the best he can. The body-bearers would lift the coffins as they brought Captain Jacquelyn and Major Rylan down into the formation.

FORWARD! MARCH!”

The 1st Regiment would march inside the walls of the Bastion as they descended to a Ferrum-reinforced door, swinging it open as they disappeared into the depths of the Imperial Barracks. They would return to the surface after a few minutes, two soldiers shorter than when they first began.

Alexander would offer the thin line that was his lips, his thoughts directed to the two fallen comrades. "Great soldiers, both of them, great individuals as well. May the future hold only the best for you, Swint, Cenobia." At that, he'd offer a salute, a fitting conclusion.
