13th of Tobias' Bounty, 1818

Once again, the fire worshippers of Norland have announced their intention to destroy us.

We have seen their kind before. Nine times before, this faithless horde has massed at our borders, and nine times they have failed. Why?

Though they do not have our church, the Virtue cries out in the hearts of these men. To abandon the faith of our fathers, to abandon humanity, is a sin that pains the soul. Such men cannot bear to exist in the same world as the Holy Orenian Empire because it is a reminder of the prophets they rejected. It is a constant reminder that they have strayed off the path GOD set before them and bound themselves for the Void.

So they must feign outrage that we would enforce our own laws within our own borders. How could they not, if from the beginning their eyes were fixed upon a vision of bloodshed? We grew stronger by turning the other cheek, refusing each insult paid to us. And each time we rejected them, they became more furious, and their scheme more apparent--to fabricate, by any means necessary, a pretext for an aggressive war. It was always a futile effort. Their real casus belli is transparent for all the world to see:

“The Orenian people exist. By some strange means we cannot accomplish, they are content to live in quiet and pious prosperity. They have little interest in us, and often seem to pity our efforts to rouse them to fury. For that, they must suffer.”

Unwilling to improve their own society,  envious invaders now come for ours.

All the world must grieve that some nations are unable to look inward, and thus they cannot conceive of making themselves greater without making others lesser. These belligerent attitudes are the death throes of moribund and hollow cultures, only capable of drawing out vigor through bloodlust.

But they cannot hope to prevail.

Together, the Orenian people comprise one quarter of the world. Each of us is descended from Canonist saints and prophets, and our leaders live just a short walk to the confessional of the High Pontiff himself. Even our capital is named for our sole ambition--Providence, the great plan of GOD.

If this kingdom of apostates insists upon bloodying the pages of mankind’s history once more, then we will meet them in battle. They will be recorded as a footnote, another in a long list of evil and impossible attempts to foil Providence. We will repel this invasion, as we have all others.

When the battle is finished, we will march into the Nordling chieftain’s capital, and we will extinguish that cultic idol at which they worship. We will douse their burning bush with the holy waters of Gamesh.

Let this be the final Nordling War.

“The wicked shall see it, and be grieved: he shall gnash his teeth and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.” (Proverbs 3:5)

ISSUED AND PROCLAIMED,

John VIII, by the grace of GOD Holy Orenian Emperor, forever August, King of Renatus, Curon, Kaedrin, Salvus, and Seventis, Defender of the Faith, Grand Duke of Ves, Duke of Adria, Novellen and Lorraine, Baron of Renzfeld, Protector of the Heartlanders, Highlanders, and Farfolk, etcetera.

(Pretty) Princess Helen Antonia agrees with the response, ensuring her best friend Anna sees and sends it forward. At teatime, she talks about it to everyone - her husband, her other friends, his friends - regardless of how much she actually loves such announcements.

"We shall soon give them real casus bellis!" she'd comment to them!

In fact, her fat courier Tobias is even sent to send it outwards more!

"The Nordlings only wish for the destruction of the Empire, they seek to destroy everything that we've created out of envy." the Imperial Prince would then shake his head, "As Captain Martin once said, Oren will stand as long as we defend it."

An aging Basrid begins to prepare for the war by brushing a few papers from his desk. He cleaned his sword, running a blade over the edge to ensure that the blade was spotless. "Oh how the papers call to me... Though this is a good reason to push off the publishing of the next one." He sighed. "Here we go again..."

The Solicitor-General would nod at the proclamation of the Emperor "Orenians, We, the Canonists, shall prevail over these Nordling Pagans who seek to invade our lands and destroy our Chapels, Cathedrals and burn our Clergymen alive. Our Lord GOD shall prevail over the false Red Demon that they worship. The righteous shall prevail over the wicked." he would conclude after signing the Lorraine Cross.

His Imperial Excellency, Sir Ledicort d'Azor, would return with soldiers to the gates of the Capital. "We fight for Cannonism, we fight for the Empire and we fight for our most holy Emperor John VIII. Shall the righteous prevail."

Anna Henrietta sat and lounged with the Princess Imperial, her own eldest son, twin daughters, god-daughter and- of course Georgiana Lucille. While they all spoke of the season the missive was dropped upon the table.

"My. What a time we live in! Hopefully we can still have a good ending to our season."

Charlotte Augusta would give a firm nod at her uncle's public statement, reading it alongside her morning tea. Regardless of the coming conflict, the imperial princess looked forward to the aid she might herself provide to her countrymen during this time. She returned focus afterward to her impending interview scheduled for the next saint's day, intent on finding place among those of the Emperor's cabinet as the head of Foreign Affairs.
