HIS HOLINESS TYLOS III, High Pontiff of the Church of the Canon, Archbishop of Visigia, Successor of the High Priesthood of the Church, Supreme Pontiff of the Church of True Faith, Keeper of the Canon, Missionary to Aeldin, High Servant to the Exalted's Testaments, Humble Servant of the Faithful and Vicar of GOD does decree… Most Beloved Brethren of GOD: The title of Fidei Defensor, or Defender of the Faith, is one that must be held in the highest respect, both by the Canonist people and he who holds the title, for the responsibilities of he who calls himself such are of a great scale. He who is called Fidei Defensor must go about his duties in a most virtuous manner, to set an example for the people who share his faith, and he must never hesitate to do right by GOD, his Lord who he has placed all trust in. The manner of which the title is granted, however, is with a major flaw. One that is the reason which many men have held the title without ever being deserving of it - Inheritance. The title of Fidei Defensor is one that should only ever be held by a man whose piety, loyalty, and dedication to the Holy Mother Church and GOD is undoubtable. The flaw of inheritance has ensured that men who are the opposite have been allowed to hold the title. One must remember that even men such as Philip III were once called Fidei Defensor. Throughout the process of this conflict surrounding the Silver Isle of Haelun’or, none of the Canonist nations’ actions have been fully virtuous, and the actions of the Kingdom of Haense under Karl III, the current holder of the title, have proven to Us that none are deserving of the title. It is the duty of not just the Fidei Defensor, but all Canonist nations to maintain peace among each other, a duty all of them have failed to achieve. All three rulers at this moment are sons of Fidei Defensors past, yet they have all proven that birthright alone does not make any man worthy of the title. Throughout the years, the once prestigious title has been reduced to nothing but a political tool, used both by the nation which holds it as apparent proof of the virtue in their actions, and by the Church as a means of threatening and punishing said nation. Both have been proven in Our lifetime, with the Michaelite Schism and the events of this Saint’s Week. Thus, the following is concluded. Humanity has lost its way. It is the duty of all Canonists to defend the faith, but such a duty has been failed by all throughout recent history. It is painful that We must be the one to do so, but it is for the good of all Canondom that the title be destroyed, as a lesson both sombre and righteous. As of now, the title of Fidei Defensor is revoked from Karl III of Haense and immediately destroyed, only to be granted when a High Pontiff deems a Canonist sovereign to be deserving of the title. Upon the death of any future Fidei Defensors, the title is to be immediately destroyed then also.
